hello my scar is still red after 6 months of surgery is it normal ? thanks alot

Time for scar to turn white

A scar can take up to 1 year to lose its color and turn white. That said, some scars turn into keloids which will remain red unless treated with cortisone injections &/or laser. I would have your treating physician assess the scar to make sure its healing properly. Also, fair skinned people have red scars for longer usually than those less fair.

It takes about a year for scars to mature and become pale. In the meantime, the best way to help your scars is just let your body deal with them and stay out of the sun for a year, as suntanning the scar may stain it permanently red or brown. This makes it more noticeable.

It can take a scar at least one year if not longer before they fully mature and fade. It can take longer in some patients. There are treatments that can help
