Narrowing bridge without lowering dorsum?

Question

Is it possible to narrow the nasal bridge without lowering the dorsum? I have a straight bridge and don't want it lowered, but depending on the surgeon I speak to, they suggest a different reliability of result. Thanks

Hello and thank you for your question. Addressing the shape of your nose (especially the bridge) is actually one of the most common reasons people seek out and undergo a rhinoplasty. An open septorhinoplasty (in the right hands) can best address both your aesthetic concerns and any functional issues with your nose. Because your nose is the DEFINING feature of your face- I would only recommend seeing a surgeon who specializes in rhinoplasty procedures, and who has significant training and experience performing these surgeries. Yes, the bridge can be narrowed by filing the sides, not taking off the dorsum.

Narrowing the nasal bridge: The nasal bridge can be narrowed without reducing the dorsal profile. In such cases medial osteotomies are important along with the lateral osteotomies.

While it is possible to narrow the nose and thereby alter it in one dimension, it is important to consider that there may be consequence (intentional or unintentional) that occur in other dimensions.

The potential projection of the nasal bones will theoretically be reduced a very slight amount if placed in a more acute angle. This is unlikely to have real clinical implications. 
If you are unhappy with the outcome it is more likely to be other issues. 
I would not try to theorize too much about this, 
In the end, there are really only two variables that matter.
The first is your candidacy for the procedure and the second is the selection of provider.
High patient satisfaction and quality outcomes are almost always based on those two single variables.
Understanding your candidacy for the procedure and selecting the right provider, is where you should be focusing your effort.

In general, the bridge of the nose can be narrowed without lowering the dorsum. They are different steps in the Rhinoplasty procedure. So if  your dorsum does not require alteration, then the bridge alone  can be narrowed.
