I had a rhinoplasty in 2023. The result was the most perfect nose I’ve ever seen. I chose an amazing doctor and was meticulous on after care. Unfortunately I took an airbag to the face in a car accident a few months ago. The nose looked exactly the same afterwards, and stayed exactly the same for about 2 months. A few weeks ago the tip started looking super deformed. What happened? Did something shift in accident but not show up until 2 months + later? Also I have been taping it at night since I noticed it, will that help? And is it something that could be fixed/smoothed out with filler? Thanks.

Answer: Rhinoplasty It would be most helpful to see pictures of your nose before surgery, after surgery and before the car accident as well as the current issue. It’s possible that after the car accident,, new scar tissue began to form which caused deformation of the cartilage and/or the trauma resulted in thinning of the soft tissue of the tip, making the underlying cartilage more visible. I would highly recommend that you go back to the surgeon who did your rhinoplasty, considering you had such a good experience, and see what he or she advises.

Answer: Traumatic nose changes It is difficult to answer this question without knowing what was done surgically during your prior rhinoplasty. Often, cartilage grafts are used to help in tip positioning and shaping. these grafts could certainly be fractured in the course of an accident which may result in a change in the nasal appearance after healing. If you were happy with the results of your rhinoplasty, I would recommend following up with your surgeon. They will have the best understanding of what was done surgically, and can help in the decision process for whether a revision is needed. Sean Fisher, MD Aesthetic Plastic SurgeonSeattle, WA
