I am a 22 year old female, 5’4 and about 164lbs. I’ve never had any kids, nor have I ever been “significantly” overweight. I am currently on a weight loss journey from being 177 pounds (my heaviest weight ever), and have been eating in a calorie deficit, as well as exercising at least 3x a week for the last 6months. Unfortunately I am not seeing the progress I would like in my stomach, I have never been able to have a flat stomach even at my lowest weights. I have always had fat there, especially on the bottom half of my stomach that gives me an “apron belly”. The more weight I gained the bigger and lumpier it got and harder it’s been to lose. I did do another weightloss journey a couple years ago where I was able to get to 150lbs (my ideal weight) and while my stomach did shrink, it still had a pudge and excessive fat still on my mons pubis. I want to know if I am a good candidate for liposuction on my abdomen as well as the mons pubis?

Answer: Understanding Liposuction: Procedure, Effects, and Postoperative Care Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes fat from specific areas of the body. It is not a weight-loss surgery but rather a method of reducing volume by removing fat, which can result in some weight loss as a secondary effect. In general, abdominal fat is categorized into two types: subcutaneous fat (above the muscle) and visceral fat (below the muscle). Liposuction targets the subcutaneous fat through surgical removal. Visceral fat, on the other hand, cannot be removed through surgery and must be reduced through consistent lifestyle management and dietary control. By reducing volume, liposuction helps contour the body and create a more defined silhouette. However, proper aftercare is essential for maintaining the results. Continued dieting and exercise are crucial to preserving the surgical outcome and promoting the burning of visceral fat, which can further enhance the results over time. Based on your photos, your body appears to be a good candidate for liposuction, especially in the upper and lower abdomen, as well as the flanks and love handle areas. After liposuction, wearing compression garments properly is important, as it helps the skin adhere smoothly to the underlying tissues for better overall results.

Answer: Liposuction on the abdomen can be a great option to get rid of stubborn fat. Body contouring procedures have become increasingly popular and can help men and women recontour their body in adulthood. If you have stubborn areas of fatty accumulation that are more resistant to diet and exercise, you may be a candidate for body sculpting liposuction performed at Kare Plastic Surgery in Santa Monica. Liposuction remains one of the most popular procedures in cosmetic surgery and allows patients to slim and toned their waist line, back, arms, and legs using this minimally invasive and highly coveted procedure. Among the most common areas to have liposuction performed is the waist line and stomach area. This makes liposuction an excellent alternative to a tummy tuck or mini tummy tuck. If you have had fluctuations in weight, you may benefit by recontouring the waistline and abdomen using liposuction. Patient with excessive skin in the lower abdomen from childbirth or from excessive weight loss may not respond well to liposuction because the extra skin will continue to hang. In these patients, and abdominal plasty procedure is preferred. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Realself100 Surgeon
