There is a wide variety of treatments to correct fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth.  You can opt to use a hyaluronic filler, like Restylane Silk, which helps to fill in and smooth out those lines or a purified botulinum toxin like Botox to relax facial muscles by temporarily weakening muscles that cause lines and wrinkles.  Other options include laser services, chemical peels, and microneedling.  Treatment is based on the severity and depth of the fine lines as well as you as a patient understanding what the various options can and cannot do. Making an appointment with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon or Medical Esthestician will provide you with a specialized treatment plan.

A pursestring muscle surrounds the mouth. Wrinkles are radiating outward because of that 1. muscle ( small amount of Botox) 2. Loss of volume (fillers in the lip and carefully above) 3. Changes in skin thickness and texture ( resurfacing, dermabrasion or laser resurfacing.  Most patients start with fillers and when this choice is over utilised odd appearances result. Other synergistic options such as a couple drops of Botox or resurfacing can lessen reliance on Juvederm or Restylane.

At our practice we use a combination of laser and injectable treatments depending on the severity and depth of the lines/wrinkles.  We typically recommend an in-person consultation to assess the condition of the skin and patient desires and expectations.
Vertical lines above the mouth respond very well to small amounts of Juvederm or Restylane.  Over filling does not often give a natural outcome so we use lasers like the Sublative Fractional RF or the CO2RE to refine the texture of the skin or even TCA peel(s).  For patients with darker skin types I recommend microneedling treatments with injection therapy.
Hope this helps.  Good luck.

Vertical lines in the upper lip are usually from loss of underlying fat, muscle and bone mass, resulting in a volume loss. The skin no longer has deeper support and which allows it to fold upon itself forming lines and wrinkles.  Juvederm is and ideal injectable product for restoring contour, shape and volume to the entire upper lip. Attention to detail and having an artistic eye will afford you the optimum results.

Thank you for your question.  It is difficult to comment without seeing a photograph.  In general, vertical upper and lower lip lines are very challenging to treat.  I find that a combination of Botox and fillers such as Juvederm works best.  Beautiful and natural results can be achieved.  Please be sure to see an expert injector for an in-person consultation to fully address your concerns and to discuss your goals and expectations in order to determine the best treatment plan.  Best wishes!
