What happens when you close an “open roof” from dorsal hump shaving?

So I understand that sometimes an open roof is formed from shaving down a dorsal hump and then sometimes an osteotomy is performed to close the roof. My question is are the bones just repositioned closer together so the open part is less visible? Or do you actually make a full triangle and have the bones touching? If the bones are just pushed closer together, does the open roof then heal over? Or will it always be open but just not visible as the bones are sufficiently close?
