Is there any evidence that ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate converts into ascorbic acid in the skin? (photo)

I would like to start using a vit. C serum and am wondering about anhydrous formulations. I'm wondering about the oxidative stress of esterified ascorbic acid. I've read that this particular ester needs to be cleaved 4 times for it become active. I'm wondering if that hasn't even been shown to happen with more simpler compounds. Thanks :)
