Over the last several years new technology has been developed that is more suited to skin that would tend to hyper-pigment with a "laser'.

Certainly a board certified specialist who is trained in treating skin is your best option. Dermatology is a skin based science and a certified dermatologist would likely be your best resource. There are plastic surgeons who have taken the time to learn about skin and lasers as well. Just choose wisely and ask a lot of questions.

Investigate the types of systems that are meant to decrease scarring. Certainly Fraxel has a good reputation for light skin - though it is not the only or even the best option for ethnic skin.

Your genetic background will play a big role in which technology you use. eMatrix is radio-frequency and we use this in our office for patients with a variety of backgrounds because the post treatment risk of pigmentation is greatly reduced.

Selecting a practice with multiple systems makes the most sense. That way the correct one for your skin could be selected.
