Sutures are often required if the wound cannot be approximated during the healing phase with bandages. An examination would be appropriate at the time of injury to ascertain the pros and cons of sutures.

It is a bit difficult to tell how deep your cut is just from the photo, but I would say there is a chance that having it closed with sutures would minimize your scarring.  I would recommend having your cut examined by a doctor to determine if you should have stitches.
