Why is my waist measurement four inches greater now than it was in my 30s?

Question

After two consultations hoping for liposuction or CoolSculpting, I was told by both surgeons that the baggage around my belly and abdomen was not fat but loose skin. I got a tummy tuck and was pleased with results but my waist measurement did not significantly decrease. I'm 63, the same weight and close to the same body fat percentage as I was in my 30's. My question is, why is my waist measurement four inches greater now than it was in my 30's? Is it increase in visceral fat? Do organs enlarge with age?

There are many things that can contribute to waist measurement.  Visceral fat, which is the fat that surrounds your organs, can impact this. Visceral fat cannot be addressed by a tummy tuck nor liposuction.  The only way to decrease it is to lose weight.  Redistribution of your fat due to age can also be a factor.  I hope this helps.

and usually its from osteoporosis and your vertebrae compressing, allowing your ribs to get closer and closer to your hip bone... and you will get shorter as well.  If not that, then its a redistribution of your fat and soft tissues and could be visceral fat as you mention.  An exam and detailed history could help reveal what may be happening.
