Is This Swelling or is This my Final Result After TT? (photo)

I am 19 days post-abdominoplasty, which I did to improve my appearance after a 95 lb weight loss. If it's relevant, I also had a small umbilical hernia repair during the surgery. The swelling in the area I'm pointing to in the pictures, either lower abdomen or upper pubic region, is still quite significant to me. I'm wondering if this is normal, is this actually just swelling, or is this as "flat" as I should expect to get. Thank you for your opinions!

A: Swelling after tummy tuck

It appears that you still have some swelling. I tell my patients that they may be swollen for several months after surgery. You should continue to wear a compression garment or even Spanks to help reduce the swelling. It is also a good idea to have your surgeon take a look at things on your next visit to make sure everything is healing well.

Can I Still Play Full-contact Sports After a Tummy Tuck?

Can I get a tummy tuck and still play competitive full-contact sports with no pain or fear of damage? (Never had children, this procedure is to remove loose skin from having been overweight for birth to age 18.) Some of the doctors I've met have describe suturing muscles to create internal corsets as part of the procedure where others have not mentioned so much of this. Would one of these options be better than the other in terms of playing sports? Thank you for your time and help.

A: Sports OK after Tummy Tuck

Even with muscle repair, full contact sports can be resumed after a tummy tuck, but you must give adequate time for healing.

I advise my patients to allow 6 full weeks of limited activity, without stressing the repair after the procedure. Your body needs time to build strength in the repairs.

After this time, it is wise to begin gradualted strengthening exercises and increase in activities. Too much, too soon will result in complications, compromise results and prolong recovery.

Depending on your particular situation, expect 3-4 months, as a minimum before resuming full contact sports.

OB/GYN Doing Tummy Tuck?

I am having a gynecological procedure done in a month, and the ob/gyn has offered to do a tummy tuck at the same time. I have heard great things from other people. I am nervous...he doesn't do lipo or belly button work. He said he only deals with the lower abdomen. My main issue is my lower abdo. I feel like I look 5 months pregnant, it has that shape, and it hangs. Its the only place my extra weight is. so would this work? what about the belly button? how does it really work?

A: OB/GYN doing tummy tuck??

Thank you for your question!  I would have to agree with the previous responses.  If you intuition is telling you that there just isn't something right about having your OB perform this procedure, I would always trust your gut instincts.  There are specialties in medicine for a reason. I say this especially because, on most occasions, a plastic surgeon would be happy to collaborate with your OB/GYN to perform one joint surgery.  I have done it on many occasions for patients who do not want to undergo two separate operations. That way, you can rest easy knowing that you are in the best possible hands for the job.  Best of luck to you!
