Is Liposuction Safe? What Are the Most Common Risks Associated with Lipo?

Is Liposuction Safe? What Are the Most Common Risks Associated with Lipo?

A: When you eliminate "General Anesthesia", you've eliminated the biggest risk in Liposuction!

Liposuction is a fairly safe procedure with minimal risks when done under local tumescent anesthesia in a healthy and appropriate patient.  The biggest risk with almost any cosmetic procedure is general anesthesia. There are more minor risks involving allergies, contour irregularities, infections, etc... but when done in an appropriate setting and with appropriately experienced docs, you should have a good experience with good results.  Sincerely,

Are There Special Considerations for Liposuction on Asian Patients? I Scar Easily.

I'm female, 27,5'2'', 120 pound. I'm athletic, but all my life have had fat in my lower abdomen. I'm asian and have skin that scars VERY easily. I was reading on Realself that a doctor suggested VASER lipo since it worked better on asian patients "since they tended to have fibourus fat" What type of Lipo would work best for me? Are there any special considerations for asian patients? I've found someone sites that talk about "asian liposuction"--is there such a thing?

A: Special considerations for Asian and Blacks when doing liposuction.

Darker complexed skin tends to get hyperpigmented after 1st being irritated which is what the liposuction canulas do to the skin when going through the tiny needle holes. 1st week use antibiotic cream on the holes; 2nd week use a prescription steroid cream such as triamcinolone 0.1% daily; 3rd week start prescription bleaching cream nightly and continue until dots are faded nicely which is usually 3-6 months. Using micro-cannulas during liposuction tend to give dots only and not the big incisions from ultrasound or other laser lipos. Sincerely,

Getting Liposuction on Thighs and Flanks, Will I Regret Not Getting it on my Lower Abdomen?

I am currently scheduled to receive liposuction in my outer thighs an flanks at the same time as a BA, next month. My question is, since I seem to put on weight mostly in my thighs/flanks first, and my lower abdominals second, will I regret not also getting my lower abdominals done? I'm worried I will go through all the pain and work of recovery, only to gain my extra pounds strictly in my belly after recovery and still be uncomfortable in my body. Thoughts?

A: Doing too many procedures at once under general anesthesia is not worth the risks!

Liposuction is almost always done on the whole abdomen rather than just the lower abs to get the best results. Upper and lower abdomen and hips(flanks) can be done at 1 procedure under local usually easily and maybe your outer thighs as well.  Doing your breast augs  in one procedure is usually enough. Take your doc's advise on what he/she can do safely.  "Add ons" tend to increase the risks too much especially under gen. Sincerely,
