What Degree of Ptosis Am I? Minor, Moderate or Severe? What Technique Is Best For Me? (photo)

I decided to get a breast lift. Although, I have not been seen by a plastic surgeon as of yet. I will be making an appointment as soon as possible. However, I have a few questions. Will a lift help with stretch marks? Which technique will serve me best, Perareolar, Circumareolar, Vertical or Anchor? What's the average cost? Will I go down in bra size? I am 38 years of age with no children. 135 pounds at 5'1 and my bra size is 38D. All opinion will be appreciated. Thanks

A: Breast Lift options

A breast lift procedure is performed to elevate the nipple/areola to a normal level, remove excess skin below the breast and create more symmetry.  A breast reduction procedure accomplishes the same goals, but removes excess breast tissue to decrease the size of the breasts.

In your case, you will need a small breast reduction.  You can maintain your "D" cup size, but your breasts will be much perkier.  A lollipop incision or balloon incision will easily accomplish that goal.  Because of the pigment in your skin, you are at a higher risk of developing unsightly scars (keloids and hypertrophic scars).  So, the smaller the scar, the better for you.  Stay away from the anchor scar.

If your stretch marks are in the skin that is removed, they will be gone.  If your stretch marks are in the remaining skin, they will still be present, but less noticiable because the tension pulling the stretch marks from the hanging breast tissue will be relieved.

This type of procedure will maintain the blood supply, milk ducts and nerves to the nipple/areola.  Therefore, you should maintain feeling, sensitivity and the ability to breast feed, if you should so desire in the future.  There is very little blood loss and the procedure can be performed as an outpatient.  The recovery is fast, 3-5 days with dissolvable sutures and very minimal post operative pain.  The entire procedure should take around 2 hours, 1 hour per side.

Good Luck!

If I Have a Breast Lift Due to Tubular Breast How Will Pregnancy Effect It?

I didn't know I had tubular breast when I started looking into options I just knew I didnt look like other girls and i was very self conscious about my body. The doctors that I have seen have suggested a breast lift instead of implants since I am not concerned with my size just my shape. I would like to do the surgery now but have not had kids yet. Is this advisable? I would like to wait about 2-3 more years for kids.

A: How does pregnancy affect breast shape

Breasts, and for that matter our whole bodies, are not static in shape or size.  They are dynamic and change constantly throughout our lifetime.  Pregnancy will definetly change your breasts because of hormonal changes, size increase and possible breast feeding.  What your breasts will look like after pregnancy is totally unpredictable.

Therefore, if you don't like the shape or size of your breasts currently, I would go ahead and have a procedure to alter them.  Having performed thousands of breast lifts, reductions and implants, I can tell you the percentage of women that need a secondary procedure is very low, it is not zero, but certainly not worth waiting years for if you are currently not happy with your breasts.

I would go for it!!

What Could I Have Done for Droopy Uneven Breasts?

Hi, I am 47 my breastbb size is 36 DD. They are starting to head south. I just realized they are uneven in size seeing this picture. What could I have done that would be best for this situation?

A: Breast lifts for droopy breasts

Breast lifts are quite common in the United States with close to 90,000 performed in 2010 according to stats from the ASPS. Breast lifts improve the appearance of the breasts by removing excess areolar tissue, as well as skin excess from around the areola and from the inferior portion of the breast. The areolae typically look smaller and the nipples sit higher after the procedure. Patients need to be content with their current size, in that they may end up being a bit smaller after surgery.  Breast lifts are also helpful in correcting asymmetry when one breast is lower or smaller than another.  To determine if a breast lift is a good idea, patients should meet with a local board certified plastic surgeon experienced with cosmetic breast surgery.
