Do You Have to Find a 'Special Implant Removal' Surgeon when Explanting?

Hi, I have decided to remove my implants and have visited two surgeons. One was very positive about my results after explantation. The other didn't think I would be happy with the results. Both are highly regarded surgeons. Do you think the more positive surgeon is more confident in his technique or is it a simple procedure that doesn't take much time? Does the surgeon matter when explanting? Should I find a specialist? Thank you

A: Breast implant removal

Different doctors will advise you differently based on their training and experience.  If you talk to ten different plastic surgeons you might very well get ten differing opinions.  Each patient is unique.  Still, any board-certified plastic surgeon should be competent to remove breast implants.  This does not require any specialized training.

Thinking of Getting Saline Implants Removed, Is this Possible Without Sagging?

I had gotten saline implants about a year ago, im 19 and I was a 34B before now a 34D, and im thinking of having them removed I have not been happy since i got them and do not know if i ever will be, could i get them removed without them sagging?

A: Implant removal and sagging

Implants simply add volume to your breasts.  If you remove them, you remove the volume.  If you have smaller implants and good elasticity to your skin then the skin should contract over time just as it does when we remove fat during liposuction.  If you have larger volume implants your skin may be stretched beyond its ability to contract adequately.  If that is the case then a breast lift may be required.

I Have Old Implants from 1987 Should I Have Them Out?

Please tell me what to do I have old implants 1987 silicon 250cc they look pretty much the same a little smaller in size. Should I have them removed. I don't want new one put back in just go natural. Also they don't like the leaking. Can I keep them in for as long as I'm alive I'm 55 yrs old. What do you recommend

A: Aging breast implants

I have two thoughts about that:   First, as we say in the South, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."  I have seen many of my father's patients who have had silicone gel implants for 30+ years with no problems.  On the flip side of that coin, I tell patients that it is easier to remove or change out old implants before they break rather than waiting until after they break.  When those old silicone gel implants break, the gel may come out as long gooey strands of silicone gel which is a mess for us to deal with.  We can get it out without any problem but it tends to make our gloves and instruments sticky.  The newer silicone gel implants are much more cohesive and therefore tend to come out as a single lump rather than long strands if they break.  If you choose to remove your old implants, you have the option of replacing them with newer cohesive silicone gel implants, saline implants, or simply leaving them out altogether.
