I am 23 years old and suffered with bad acne in my teen years. So far, I don't have anymore acne, I am now left with dark marks, a few blackheads, open pores and oily skin. Can laser help minimize my pores size, remove the black heads and dark marks, and help with the oily skin?
Laser resurfacing (such as Fraxel DUAL 1550/1927nm laser) has been shown in several studies to improve a variety of conditions, from acne scarring to melasma (brown patches on the skin most commonly related to pregnancy and sun exposure) to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (brown marks on the skin left from trauma, acne, or irritation). Multiple treatments may be needed with the laser to result in the desired amount of improvement.
I do not want any sedatives as I don't need any. I heard a doctor around here wouldn't even do it without patient being sedated. However, have heard of some that just use local anesthesia with an OPTION for sedative or iv sedation. Please let me know if this is absolutely necessary. I really don't need to be sedated in my opinion (as long as I am pain free with the local)
I have a higher pain tolerance and I also do not take anything I don't have too, (other than antibiotics). I am wondering after laser resurfacing is it possible to not take ANYTHING after for pain (this includes ibuprofen, tylenol, vicodin, etc.)? I am sure there is some discomfort but can it be managed with just numbing cream?
Most patients will not need prescription pain medications after a laser resurfacing procedure; some will need OTC products such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen. I would not recommend using a numbing cream in the post-op healing phase.
