Myth or Fact: Do Chemical Peels Stimulate Collagen Production?

I have enlarged/scarred pores on my cheeks and on my nose. I also have a few very, very, shallow acne scars. I would love to find an alternative to laser treatments or microdermabrasion (I am prone to broken blood vessels) to help fix some of these issues. Would a series of chemical peels do the trick? Or something else?

A: Chemical Peels - Collagen growth and acne scars

Yes, chemical peels do stimulate superficial collagen production; however, to treat acne scars, most chemical peels do not go deep enough in the skin to affect them.  There is no ideal treatment to date that is perfect for enlarged pores.  In my experience, the Fraxel systems of lasers are the best available modalities at this time for improving scars as well as reducing pore size.

I Had a Chemical Peel On My Legs and Now Have Hyperpigmentation. What Can I Do?

i had my legs chemically peeled first week of august and they applied 2 coats of the solution. the following day i came back and there were dark areas of my legs that seemed to be burned due to the application,it healed after almost 3 weeks. but my legs didn't entirely peeled off,and there are dark pigmentation. the doctor said that i need to spend a lot of time on water, which i did but it's still the same. how can i remove it faster??

A: Chemical peel and hyperpigmentation

First, sun protection is paramount, to prevent the pigmentation from getting darker.  Higher-SPF sunscreen is advised and should be worn daily.  Second, a dermatologist may prescribe topical bleaching agents such as hydroquinone 4% cream to apply to the dark areas at night to help lighten the dark spots.  Other lightening agents include arbutin, kojic acid, and retinoid creams.

Is Hypopigmenation After a Chemical Peel Permanent?

I had a medium peel a month ago on a scar/ hyperpigmentation after having a tattoo removed by laser. The skin is now very pale, and I am worried this is permanent. I have Indian skin, and I have also tanned skin. Is there anything I can do such as have laser treatment?

A: Hypopigementation after peels or laser is permanent

Unfortunately hypopigmentation is a permanent side effect of many lasers and chemical peels and there is no way to restore the pigment. The treatment, instead, relies on lightening the area around the hypopigmented spot to produce a more natural transition.
