Drains are tubes placed in an operative bed which are usually closed suction systems which help to remove fluid normally secreted by the body in the immediate healing process. The volume usually accepted for drain removal is 30 cc per day for two consecutive days, though this can be variable depending on drain location. I hope this helps. Dr. Trussler
Is Hypoplastic Breast Reconstruction Covered Under Insurance?
Unfortunately most insurance carriers consider this a cosmetic procedure now; I occasionally got this covered a number of years ago, but it is routinely denied now. If the correction involves a component of soft tissue reconstruction (e.g. a flap reconstruction) it might be that a pre-determination would be worthwhile, but certainly no guarantees could be made that this would afford insurance coverage.
I had bilateral mastectomies with immediate bilateral reconstruction with implants and free nipple grafts 1 week ago. I had 600 cc saline implants before the surgery which were replaced with 800 cc silicone. My breasts are flat and oddly shaped. Will the implants drop like they did after my first surgery and will my breasts become less flat?
It looks like you likely need a mastopexy or breast lift. Breast shaping principles apply for both cosmetic and reconstruction patients, but the only difference in maintaining skin viability in the post-mastectomy patient, but nipple movement should be straightforward. You would likely need lifting and tightening of the skin, but I would recommend doing this after you are healed. I hope this helps. Dr. Trussler
