I am thrilled with my rhinoplasty results from Dr. Hill as I post this 7 months after my procedure was performed. Dr. Hill has an excellent bedside manner and is very thorough in explaining what outcomes are achievable according to your genetics/facial structure, etc. I am so glad that I chose Dr. Hill for this procedure. He was so meticulous and detailed during my consultation I can only imagine what he is like in the operating room. Answer from Dr. Sean Hill, Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon at Lone Star Plastic Surgery in Frisco, TX: You’re still very early in the healing process, and what you’re experiencing is completely normal. At two weeks after rhinoplasty, most patients still have noticeable swelling, especially around the nasal tip and bridge. While the worst of the swelling usually subsides within the first 2–3 weeks, it’s important to know that refinement continues gradually over several months. Here’s what to expect moving forward: • 2–4 weeks: The nose starts to look more refined, and much of the facial bruising (if any) resolves. • 1–3 months: Swelling continues to decrease, and you’ll see ongoing improvement in contour — though the tip often stays firm or puffy a bit longer. • 6–12 months: Subtle definition continues to emerge, especially in the tip and profile view. Thicker skin types may take even longer to fully settle. Remember, it’s totally normal for your nose to feel stiff, swollen, or slightly asymmetrical at this stage. Final results take time, and patience is key. At Lone Star Plastic Surgery, I follow all rhinoplasty patients closely through each stage of healing to ensure everything is progressing as it should. If you ever have concerns about how your swelling is resolving, a quick follow-up with your surgeon is always the best next step for peace of mind. Answer from Dr. Sean Hill, Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon at Lone Star Plastic Surgery in Frisco, TX: Great question — rhinoplasty is definitely not a one-size-fits-all procedure, and there are important differences between male and female nasal aesthetics that guide how we approach surgery. Key Differences in Male vs. Female Rhinoplasty: 1. Aesthetic Goals • Men typically want to preserve a strong, defined, and natural look — avoiding anything that appears overly refined or “scooped.” • Women may request a slightly more delicate or narrow nose, with softer angles and, in some cases, more tip rotation. 2. Bridge and Dorsum • In male rhinoplasty, we often maintain a straighter or slightly convex bridge, while in female rhinoplasty, a slight slope or concavity may be considered aesthetically pleasing. 3. Tip Definition • A stronger, more structured nasal tip is often ideal in male patients to maintain a masculine profile. • In female rhinoplasty, the tip may be slightly more refined or rotated, depending on facial harmony. 4. Facial Balance • In both cases, the goal is facial balance — but with men, we’re especially careful to preserve masculine proportions in relation to the chin, jawline, and brow. 5. Surgical Technique • The foundational techniques are similar, but surgical planning is customized for anatomy, skin thickness, and gender-specific goals. At Lone Star Plastic Surgery, I take a personalized approach to rhinoplasty — especially for men, where the margin for overcorrection is small and the emphasis is on subtle, natural-looking improvement. Whether you’re looking to correct a dorsal hump, refine a wide tip, or fix asymmetry, the goal is always to improve balance and confidence, without compromising your natural appearance. And as always, be sure to work with a board-certified plastic surgeon and member of The Rhinoplasty Society — especially for male rhinoplasty, where experience and nuance make all the difference. Answer from Dr. Sean Hill, Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon at Lone Star Plastic Surgery in Frisco, TX: This is a great question — and one I hear often from patients considering rhinoplasty later in life. The truth is, your nose doesn’t actually “grow” in adulthood, but it can change shape and appearance over time due to natural aging processes. Here’s what typically happens: • Cartilage weakens and loses support, especially in the nasal tip, which can cause the nose to droop or appear longer. • Skin and soft tissue thin, which can make the underlying structure more noticeable or lead to a change in definition. • Gravity and volume loss in the midface may make the nose appear more prominent, even though its size hasn’t truly increased. So while your nose isn’t growing like it did during childhood and adolescence, aging can subtly change its look, especially from the profile view. At Lone Star Plastic Surgery, I work with many patients who seek rhinoplasty later in life to address age-related changes — particularly a drooping tip or loss of nasal-facial balance. These refinements can restore a more youthful and harmonious profile, often with very natural-looking results. If you’re considering a change, it’s never too late to explore your options — just be sure to work with a board-certified plastic surgeon and member of The Rhinoplasty Society to ensure expert care. Answer from Dr. Sean Hill, Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon at Lone Star Plastic Surgery in Frisco, TX: Great question — and it’s smart to plan ahead for a smooth and safe recovery. I typically recommend that patients stop drinking alcohol at least 1 week before surgery. Here’s why: • Alcohol can thin the blood, which may increase your risk of bruising and bleeding during and after surgery. • It can also interfere with anesthesia and dehydrate your body, making recovery more difficult. • Additionally, alcohol may interact with medications prescribed before and after surgery, including antibiotics and pain medication. After surgery, it’s also best to avoid alcohol for at least 1–2 weeks while your body is healing and you’re on medications. At Lone Star Plastic Surgery, we provide every patient with detailed pre- and post-operative instructions, including guidance on medications, supplements, alcohol, and activity restrictions — all designed to help you get the best result with the smoothest recovery. If you’re ever unsure, your pre-op visit is a great time to go over any specific questions about your medications, lifestyle, or surgical prep. Answer from Dr. Sean Hill, Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon at Lone Star Plastic Surgery in Frisco, TX: Swelling after rhinoplasty is completely normal — and it’s one of the longest parts of the healing process. While most patients see significant improvement in the first few weeks, some degree of swelling can last for several months to a full year. Here’s a general breakdown: ⏳ First 1–2 Weeks: • The most noticeable swelling occurs during this time, along with bruising and congestion. • You’ll likely have a splint on the nose for the first 7 days.
