Is It Normal for Open Comedones to Develop in an Area Recently Treated by Dermabrasion?

I had spot dermabrasion three weeks ago to remove an indented scar. After two weeks, I went in for a consultation, and I was told I could begin to wear make up to cover the treated area. However, the skin began to dimple somewhat after about two days, and I stopped using make up on the area altogether. Now it looks like there is an enlarged pore in the middle of the treated area, with a large open comedone. Other whiteheads have also started to form in this area. Should I be worried?

A:

Comedones commonly form in areas treated with dermabrasion and are very likley to occur in patients effected by acne disease.

Dermaroller/Dermabrasion While on Low Dose Accutane

I've been getting dermaroller/dermabrasion procedures done by my dermatologist for acne scar treatments, but I tend to occasionally break out (a few here and there, cystic/nodular acne). My dermat recommended that I be on a low dose Accutane regimen for maintenance since my occasional breakouts are going to end up causing scars again while I still continue w/my dermaroller sessions. He says a very low dose of Accutane for maintenance won't really affect anything, is this true? Is it safe?

A: Dermabrasion or dermaroller and Accutane

Typically speaking any resurfacing procedure should be avoided during or after accutane treatment for a period of 6 months. The concern is delayed healing with possible scarring.  However, if your dermatologist has vast experience wtih this technique, this may be a protocol that they have perfected.

Dermabrasion for Thin, Scarred Skin After Taking Accutane?

I've been taking accutane for 9 days(2 months ago)I don't know what happend, but my skin become thin, and very fragile. Now I have some texture changes like very shallow rolling scars(about 0.2-0.5 mm depth)can this scars be leveled with skin and what is the best method for this type of scarring?I must say that scars are soft and nontethering.also, when can i do any type of treatment, since my skin is very poor healing and i have redmarks for months and prior Accutane never had this problem! help!

A: Dermabarasion after Accutane

Technically, once you have started Accutane, you should avoid resurfacing procedures for a minimum of 6 months after the procedure while others have advised 12 months to minimize the risk of hypertrophic scarring.
