Stop Facials when I Start with Isotretinoin?

I have regular facials at a beauty salon (every 2-3 weeks). Should I stop having facials once I start taking Isotretinoin? Thank you for your help!

A: Facials and Isotretinoin

There are facials, and then there are facials...

You can continue to have facials while using Isotretinoin but it is very important that your Aesthetician is informed of this to make the appropriate changes in your treatments.

Having a soothing, hydrating mini facial can help to ease the dryness and irritation common with Isotretinoin.  Your Aesthetician should refrain from using any type of exfoliation (scrubs, enzymes) and performing extractions.

Regular Facial Treatment After Accutane?

I took a 3 months course of Accutane (40mg) and now want to get a regular facial. How long should I wait?

A: Facials after Accutane

Hi there-

Typically it is best to wait about 3 months after completing Accutane to have a regular facial.

The Aesthetician performing the facial should be cautious when doing extractions and perform minimal exfoliation. A facial that did not include exfoliation and extractions could be performed at any time during or after taking Accutane if the products used are soothing and hydrating.

What Should I Expect for my First Time Facial?

First-time facial: I've never been before and don't know what to expect.

A: Experience with a facial will depend on the type of facial, and who is doing it

Hi there-

Your first facial should include a consultation to discuss your concerns regarding your skin and also to analyze your skin to determine what type of facial and products will be appropriate for you.

Facials are very pampering and relaxing and will leave your skin balanced, refreshed and deeply cleansed.

Typically a facial includes cleansing, exfoliation, steam, extractions, mask, hand massage and a facial massage to complete your treatment. If you can, plan your facial at a time when you will not need to apply make-up immediately after.
