I am 33 light skin, oily, mild acne scars, fine lines, enlarged pores. I went to an office yesterday in regards to Laser. Didn't see a doctor, but a consultant (red flag?), and she recommended IPL. Really am interested in Active FX as reviews of IPL bad effects are scary. Thought, suggestions?
the current best treatment for acne scars is some sort of fractional device. the choices are fractional erbium (like sciton profractional), fractional carbon dioxide (like active fx), fractional ysgg or fractional radiofrequency (like ematrix). they all can get excellent results - the most important variable is the experience of the person doing the procedure. IPL's are great for pigment but not the best for acne scars.
I accept that results may be small & will require ongoing management, but I don't want thigh lift scars. I'm 35. Have lost 40 lbs and been @ my goal weight for 4 months (BMI of 21). Am active. Which of Thermage, VelaShape and similar machines is best to tighten & smooth skin? (Also, how important is it that a Dr administer the treatment? It seems even at Dr's offices, technicians do the work. How can I know whether a Dr will perform the tx?) And who is the ideal candidate for this kind of work?
You are a pretty good candidate for non-invasive tightening as you are young and loose skin is mild to moderate. The devices currently used for tightening are either radiofrequency like velashape and thermage or light based like sciton st. These devices work by heating skin to a certain temperature and maintaining that temperature for a designated time period. We definitely don't have all the answers to who will be better responder or which machine is better. Typically the doctors don't do the procedure and in fact a good technician with interest and time to do the procedure will probably get the best results. Look for experienced offices and technicians.
I am wanting to do fully ablative laser (medium to deep)under the eyes and about the mouth only. I was thinking I might not have to be put to sleep if I have it done deep in just those areas. Have a microlaser full face at the same time. My question is with having just the under the eyes and above the mouth cause it to alway look a different color in those areas. That is why I am wanting to have the microlaser full face hoping it would help blend in any differents in color. What do you think?
Your question regarding whether erbium laser around the eyes and mouth will cause differences in color or texture with or without a microlaserpeel depend upon what your skin looks like and the settings of the laser. If you have a lot of sun damage you may notice a "step-off" in color or texture even if the edges are blended and even if you have a microlaserpeel. These type of laser treatments are individualized to each patients needs and experienced practicioners can judge the depths and settings necessary to avoid these "step-offs". That said - deep resurfacing around the mouth and eyes with a micropeel on the rest of the face will work for many patients.
