SMAS facelift 21 days ago. Lower jaw is very immobile, stays open when I sleep, difficult making certain sounds (f, b, p), trouble keeping food (dry) from coming out sides of mouth. If I press forward at the jawline near my ear, it relaxes the tension enough that speaking is a little easier. Will this get better? Also, feels like a very tight chin strap wrapped around my jaw that is hard to relax, kind of aches.
It is impossible to comment based on your photos and without examining you. You should return to your surgeon to discuss your concerns. In the meantime I would massage your jaw area and do range of motion several times a day by turning your head side to side and up and down and moving your mouth open widely and from side to side. Tissues tight from a facelift usually loosen up after a few weeks.
I am 4 weeks po. Will this lateral sweep go away?
It depends on the actual cause of this indentation (previous wrinkle pulled sideways, superficial liposuction, suture pull, lateral sweep of tightened muscles, etc) as to how this will resolve. Most likely you still have swelling in the skin, therefore this crease will probably improve with more time. It looks more superficial than that caused by muscle pull. If it is more superficial, it can probably be corrected by fat grafting or juverderm injections. Otherwise the results look quite nice. Best to talk to your plastic surgeon to see what he or she recommends
I had a SMAS Face Lift, Brow Lift, and Liposuction under my chin in June 2008. The scar in front of my ear is perfectly hidden on one side, but is very visible on the other side. What can be done about this? I have been given cortisone injections on my neck and behind my ears because the incision scars were thick. Do I need scar revision or some kind of laser treatment for these scars?
Depending on how visible the scars are, you might need formal scar revision where the old scar is cut out and realigned in a more favorable fashion. Alternatively, you might benefit from undergoing one of many laser treatment options to reduce the visibility of the scar.
