How Safe is Laser Hair Removal for Fair Skin?

I have blue eyes, brown hair, alabaster skin, burn easily, some freckles on face/areas exposed to sun but none on areas that aren't exposed) The hair (full legs, bikini line, underarms) is nearly black, I know I have "ideal" skin/hair for treatment, but I'm not looking to take any risk getting laser and ending up with some skin condition or burn. Shaving irritates my sensitive skin and my hair grows within hours. How safe is it in terms of side effects/burning/permanent issues?

A: Laser Hair Reduction is safe for fair skin

You are correct in that you are the “perfect candidate” for this treatment, light skin and dark hair is the best combination. As with any laser treatment there will always be a risk of complications. The best advice is to research the facility your choosing to use, the equipment they are using and how long the technician has been doing these treatments.

I Want to Remove Face Hair my Face Color is LIGHT Brown I Have Spot and Freckle . Can It Cause for Moor Pigmentation ?

I want to remove MY face hair permanently . my face color is LIGHT Brown and I Have tendency to spot and freckle on my face . can it cause for moor pigmentation ? what is the most safe procedure to do so except epilation ? does removing hair from back and bally with HSR IS RISKY ? IS THE HAIR CAN GROW TOO BE HARDER AND thicker ? maybe because of the shaving ?

A: A good candidate for Laser Hair Reduction

There are several factors needed to have a successful Laser Hair Reduction treatment. First, the hair being treated must have color or pigment to it. Second, you must not pluck or tweeze between treatments. Third depending on the laser used, you must have light skin.

Ideally if you have light skin and dark hair, you are the perfect candidate for this treatment. Shaving or using depilatories may be used between laser hair reduction treatments and will not cause the hair to grow thicker or darker, that is a myth. Hope this has been helpful.

Is 12 J of Fluency Enough to Achieve Permanent Hair Reduction?

Hi I have received my last laser treatment with a new laser the lightsheer HS, the top fluence level go up to 12joules, and I was wondering if it was enough to acheive a permanent hair reduction. I'm actually grade 2 or 3 fitzpatrick skin with blac coarse hair.. Thank you

A: Adequate energy/fluence for laser hair removal

With darker skin types (higher Fitzpatrick levels), one of the keys to successful treatment is being conservative with settings to prevent post-treatment skin discoloration. One of the ways to do this is to use a wider pulse width (one of the parameters on the laser that should be tailored according to the patient). Another way to ensure safe treatment is to use a lower (yet still effective) energy/fluence.

On the Lumenis Lightsheer device to which you are referring, a fluence of 12J/cm2 is certainly high enough to yield permanent hair removal. As with any laser used for hair removal, you will need multiple treatments to achieve an optimal result. This is because - at any one point in time - each of your (hundreds of thousands of) hair follicles will be in one of several stages of the hair growth "cycle." (Appropriate) lasers only treat hair follicles that happen to be in their "active" growth stage of the cycle at the time of treatment.
