Appropriate Time for Revision of Chin Implant? I had a XL chin implant 5 weeks ago, and it's too large. I want to reduce the size to a medium. When is a good time to perform the revision? Also, if implant was placed via intra-oral surgery, is it advisable to have revision done via the submental approach as it is supposed to be less prone to complications? Thank you.

A: Swelling after Chin Implant

It is advisable to wait 8-10 weeks if not longer. If in fact the swelling has gone down and you and your surgeon agree that the implant is just "too large," then once the edema (swelling) has subsided you can exchange the implant.

While there is no firm rule, what is important is that you are able to determine that it is not the swelling that you are seeing. Your facial plastic surgeon can assist you with this determination.

I agree that the submental approach be used although this too is the choice you and your facial plastic surgeon can make together.
