How Much Does a Single Lipoma Surgery Usually Cost?

How much will a good doctor charge to remove a single lipoma (approx. 2-4 cm diameter in size)? What type of insurance covers this?

A: Cost of lipoma removal Most health insurance covers lipoma excision so, if you have coverage, please see a plastic surgeon who can preauthorize the case. Assuming that this is a subcutaneous lipoma, the cost of removal in NY would be no more than $1000.

My Lipoma Has Moved from the Back of my Shoulder to the Top&down Slightly. Is This Possible?

In April,it was measured at 4cm x 4cm. I think there has been some slight growth since then. The bulk of it is still the same but it feels like there is some flatter parts extending out now.I also have nerve issues in that arm and if you touch around the cyst,it feels like pins and needles.I saw an Orthopedic Dr and he said that it is impossible that I have nerve damage from a lipoma.I'm not sure he knows what he's talking about.

A: LIpoma and nerve pain It is possible for a lipoma to impinge on a nerve and this is more common in areas with many complex structures, such as the shoulder. You may need an MRI to rule out other causes for the pain and tingling. However, I would recommend excision of a lesion that measures 16 sq cm. Additional delay and growth will result in a larger scar and the shoulder is not a great location for scar healing. Definitely pursue a more definitive diagnosis and treatment.

Is Surgery The Only Option For Recurring Wrist Lipoma?

I understand lipoma's can recur if some tissue was missed upon removal. That seems to be my issue after having a lipoma in my wrist removed 16 months ago. Unfortunately it causes me pain if I use my hand for long periods of time and seems to get larger as well (Swelling of the wrist causing it to become more raised?) Is there any other option other than sugery to fix this?

A: Wrist lipoma recurrence Generally, we see ganglion cysts in the wrist and not lipomas. Ganglions present with raised swelling and it is not uncommon for them to recur. Ask your surgeon what the pathology report revealed. You may need an MRI before a treatment plan can be established.
