I live in central Canada but am willing to travel to the States for the procedure and recovery. Is this feasible? If so, how are pre-op consults done?
A big part of my practice are patients who seek surgery from outside the region (greater than 3 hours traveling time). I perform many telephone consultations with photos being sent to me electronically. I require a medical clearance on all out of town patients with bloodwork. The are all notified that there is always the possibility of canceling the case or changing our surgical plans after I exam them. The must stay overnight in the region for at least 1-5nights. I have been performing these procedures for years on out of town patients with little difficulty. I always contact a colleague in the patients hometown who would be available to see the patient if necessary. Saying all that it is always better if you can find the right surgeon in your hometown.
I am 39 years old, generally slim and youthful in appearance. I am 5'5 and 124 pounds, and have two children. I gained and lost about 50 pounds in each pregnancy. My neck skin is extremely wrinkly, crepey, and saggy. My face and body look 35, but my neck looks like it belongs to a 55-year old. I KNOW I have some sun damage there from some severe burns I got in my teens. I am also wondering if the weight gains and losses of pregnancy contributed to the sagging. What can I do?
It is difficult to see due to the darkness of your photo. In order to truly tighten the neck muscles and skin a formal surgical neck lift with some technique of tightening the underlying muscles would work best. There are many different techniques for treating the underlying muscles and are reviewed on this page. Either way we all agree that both the skin and neck muscle bands need to be treated independenty. If you don't want surgery then you can try several of the "in vogue" treatments which I don't use in my practice ie: smart lipo, smart laser to name a few
If I am already sedated, would the cost be less?
The real question is rather, will I require liposuction of the neck. In that I am one of a handful of board certified plastic surgeons who have been fully trained in both dentistry and plastic surgery the issue is will you need liposuction of the next. With orthognathic surgery the lower jaw can either be moved forward or back. If the lower jaw is moved forward if will make the chin more pronounced and "Tighten the Neck". In many such cases the forward movement of the neck is enough to improve the appearance of the neck. If you still require liposuction I would charge a surgeons fee of about 1/2 of my usual fee. This would be in e range of $1500 additional surgeons fee.
