I am having a revision neck lift (had platysmal tightening) It has been 9 months since my surgery and the revision will be in two months. The ps said I had about a 5% chance of getting skin necrosis because of prior surgeries (I had lipo 3 years ago). He did not seem concerned but wanted to provide that warning. Is skin nicrosis a common occurrence or just a precaution? I do not smoke and I am in good health.
In my practice I rarely see any skin necrosis unless the patient has a previous history of smoking. I would suspect the risk of skin necrosis is lower than that, but without evaluating you I cannot answer this with complete accuracy.
I've had anesthesia before for neccesary reasons but i'm scared of it for non-neccesary procedures. How dangerous is it?
All surgical procedures carry some risks, though low. If you are a healthy and active patient with no significant medical issues you likely will be a good candidate. If you are over 50 I would recommend you get preoperative clearance by your primary MD. If you are over 40 with some medical issues then see one. Consider less aggressive in office procedures under local anesthetic if you are really worried. Good luck.
Is the "chin incision" neck lift technique the best choice for sagging skin on my neck?
I do not find that a submental incision alone addresses sagging skin to the neck, and this requires a facelift procedure to redrape the skin. The submental incision may or may not be required. If you have banding (cords) to the neck a platysmaplasty is often required to tighten the lax neck muscles, in conjuction with the facelift procedure.
