A: Age is not as Important as Your State of Health

Hi there-

While a Lower Body Lift, being one of the longer operations done for improvement in the body contour of patients like yourself, does therefore have a relatively higher level of risk than shorter, smaller operations, there is no reason to believe that (all other things being equal) your age necessarily increases these risks to the point of making the operation contra-indicated for you.

More important than your age is your overall state of health, the details of the procedure planned (which will depend on who is doing your surgery), and how carefully you are prepared for surgery by your surgeon and medical doctor.

These are among the more important reasons why choosing your surgeon carefully and based on the appropriate criteria (education, training, experience, skill, talent, history of ethical behavior) is so important.

As long as you are in good health,  you have chosen your surgeon appropriately (and not based on his great low price), and you are prepared well for surgery, you should be able to enjoy a safe and positive experience and outcome.

Good luck!

Am I At The Right Weight For a Full TT, Breast Lift, and Medial Thigh Lift? (photo)

I am 50 years old, lost 80 pounds over several years through low-carb, and have been 15 pounds shy of "normal" BMI for over 6 months now (155 pounds at 5'3"). Looking at my pics, though, I sure don't feel like I'm anywhere close to normal and wonder if this is "close enough" for good results. I'm looking for less abdomen, less saggy inner thighs, and "shorter" breasts (not bigger, no implants). Is my wish list of procedures appropriate for me at this time or is more weight loss necessary?

A: Don't starve yourself to have surgery

Hi there-

A few thoughts:

  • The best weight for surgery is the weight at which your body settles while living the lifestyle you believe you can maintain over the long term.
  • I would not have a thigh lift at the same time as a tummy tuck- risks higher and recovery difficult
  • You may be better off with a lower body lift

Your best bet is to find a surgeon you like and feel you can trust and visit them for a consultation.

Body Lift or Staggered Liposuction and Skin Removal For Saddle Bags?

HI,I had WLS and lost 120 lbs, feel great! I'm 5'10 tall and weigh 198 lbs with 25 more to be ideal wt. I workout daily, cardio & weight training but cannot seem to get rid of my outer thigh area which is disproportionately bigger than rest of my body. I wear a medium on top and XL pant 18! As I continue on my weight loss if I lose more weight on face will lose buccal fat now!:( Thinking of liposuction of saddlebags at this point in a series.. with lower body lift after? So discouraged your op?

A: Best Option for Complex Problem will Depend on Many Details

Hi there-

I think there are probably several safe pathways you could take to a similarly outstanding outcome, and the decision-making differences will end up depending on your preferences for timing, recovery, and your goals.

I would not want you to think that one plan would always necessarily be better than another.

So your best bet is to find a great surgeon you like and trust first, then firm up your plan.
