I am an African American female with medium complextion. I have fairly large pores on my face on the cheek area, acne scaring as well as blackheads under the skin. I also have some discoloration from sun damage and acne. My plastic surgeon is recommending Melanage Chemical Peel. I know it will help with discoloration but what about the enlarged pores and under the skin blackheads? I have already tried other chemical peels, to no avail! Thank you.
I have used Melanage successfully for this type of color and consider it an excellent treatment. There is always a chance of darker skin after peeling, but it has not been an issue. Emptying out the pores will make them appear smaller, and keeping them empty with light peels, facials and topicals will help. The "underground" blackheads are another issue. An evaluation for acne treatment with isotretinoin may be indicated.
I have old scars and acne scars on my face. I'm light-skinned, and I'm looking into getting a chemical peel, but I'm just now sure how effective it will be for me or if there is something else I should try. I've looked into the different types of peels and I've determined that a doctor will have to tell me what level of treatment I should receive. I never had acne as a teenager, but soon as I turned 25 seems like that's when I finally started to get acne. And, nothing seems to work for it.
Chemical peels are risky in patients with pigmented skin, as are lasers. These should only be done be by experienced Dermatologists. Before trying to treat post inflammatory pigment and scars that follow inflammatory acne, it is most important to treat the acne to prevent further permenant marks. Treatment with retinoids often will correct the acne as well as impove the pigment and the scars.
I have been through a lot of stress and lack of sleep during the last 6 months. I am 46, my skin looks dull/grey, lacking healthy glow and has sagged visibly. Also my eyes have dark circles and have lost roundness of my face. I am having light chemical peels done at a beautician after my doctor's recommendation. So far I have had 2 but still not happy with the result. Will my skin go back to looking healthy and more importantly a bit tighter after 5-6 peels? What else can I do?
Based solely upon the posted photos no "light peel" will help what you desire. Either deeper TCA peelings or Laser peel, or even mini facelift. Finally an option of enriched fat grafts.
