My CB is 1 inch side to side, and 1 inch high. I want to flatten the White area. Can I get that part of the bowl area flattened or does it have to be cut out (reducing ear height)? It's 9 millimeters off top and another 9 mm off the outer side to achieve this. Is this possible?
The conchal bowl is the inside portion of the ear. It is made up of cartilage. In some people who have protruding ears, the conchal bowl is enlarged. Depending on how enlarged it is, the concha can be setback using sutures alone, an excision of cartilage and skin, or excision of cartilage with sutures to set the ear back. This will ultimately depend on the amount of setback required.
My ears stick out and I am consedring having otoplasty. I wanted to know if I could still kickbox ,and have otoplasty.
I saw this question about boxing and otoplasty. Some doctors say yes ,and some say no.
What are the chances of something going wrong? Will protective headgear protect the ear from being harmed? If I wait longer than the six weeks of healing time will it be safer to continue kickboxing?
Otoplasty surgery is performed to pin back the ears. Surgery involves cartilage sculpting techniques that reshape the ears. After surgery it is important to refrain from vigorous physical activity, especially those where you risk hitting your ears.
During the otoplasty recovery and at least the first 6 months after surgery, a bad blow to the ear can result in pulling and breaking of sutures that are vital to maintaining the ears shape. I advise my patients to either refrain from these activities or wear a headband when performing such activities in order to prevent the ear being pulled on. The will make a big difference in the results after otoplasty surgery. Obviously you should consult with the surgeon that performs your procedure and follow their opinion as this will depend on what is done to the ear during surgery.
I would like to make my ears smaller, I know you can pin them back but my real interest is to make them a bit smaller. My question is if they can be made significantly smaller without any noticeable scars?
The most common area of the ear that people asked to be reduced is the ear lobe. With age, the earlobe stretches and appears to be enlarged. This is often corrected together with a facelift, but can be performed as a stand alone procedure as well.
Sometimes people my feel that their ears are enlarged but this may be secondary to excessive protrusion. In these cases otoplasty can give the appearance of a reduction. It is best to meet with a surgeon that performs a significant amount of otoplasty/ear surgery in order to be evaluated and get a professionals opinion.
