I had a consult for laser hair removal and the laser was discussed for my skin type. I would like to know what the average settings are for darker skin with the yag to compare what will be used at my appointment for treatment.
It is very difficult to compare settings across lasers. Each laser is a bit different and even lasers from the same company have differences. In general for darker skin hair removal energies are lower and pulse width is longer. Best advice is to go to an experienced laser place.
Is 1 week enough recovery time after erbium Yag laser treatment? I am a 42 yr old male physician considering above treatment for facial acne scars (rolling type) and wanted a realistic idea when I could expect to go back to the office following this type of procedure. Thank you in advance for any input
Recovery from erbium laser treatment depends upon patient - ie age, sex, ethnicity, skin thickness as well as laser related issues such as energy used, whether treatment is full field or fractional (and if fractional - depth of treatment and density of treatment). Also if the laser used has a coagulation mode, whether that is used. My preference for rolling acne scars is combination full field and fractional erbium resurfacing with the Sciton system. We modulate recovery time to the patients pathology and back to work needs. Best advice is to go to someone very experienced for this.
I have been offered a combination of Pixel laser and Erbium Yag 2940 traditional laser for 2 or 3 sessions of each at monthly intervals for acne scarring, red marks and a little sun damage. Would this be effective at solving my issues or are other lasers such as Active FX and Fraxel more suited to the job?
There are many systems used for acne scars including full field carbon dioxide, erbium and YSGG; as well as fractional non-ablative such as Pixel and Fraxel Restore; and ablative fractional such as erbium (sciton profractional), carbon dioxide and YSGG.
Very confusing for docs and patients. Data is out there but difficulty is in comparing results based upon acne scars and skin types. Overall, fractional seems to be better than full field for acne scars. My preference for acne scars is the Sciton Erbium Profractional, a very versatile system. In some skin types (Asian, especially), some data suggests non-ablative Fractional may be best.
