What is Wrong with my Neck? I Dislike My Profile. (photo)

I am not really what sure is wrong with my neck. I am 29 and fairly in shape I have come to really dislike my profile. Is there anything that can be done?

A: Neck aesthetics, Improving appearance with lipolift, genioplasty or chin implants

There are two issues with your neck.  What you are noticing is your cervicomental angle, the angle betweenyour neck and chin.  the quick answer that you SHOULD NOT go for is a chin implant.  Redraping your neck skin with minimal liposuction and skin tightening( I prefer Skintyte II an infrared based skin contraction device) with or without a genioplasty.  A genioplasty is a surgical repositioning of the projection of your chin.  Fewer surgeons offer this because it requires more advanced training and technical skill, but it provides results that an implant can never achieve.  Implants cannot change the vertical position of your chin and always erode both bone and soft tissue and carry lifelong risks of infection, extrusion and nerve compression.  Chin implants are a very bead idea for patients of your age.  An oblique sliding geneoplasty could balance the horizontal and vertical dimensions of your face and also dramatically improve the appearance of your cervicomental angle giving you a more defined appearance and a prettier neck.  I hope this helps!

Loose Neck Skin, What Options do I Have other than a Full Neck Lift?

I dont need a facelift but I have a small amount of loose skin under my chin and 2 folds on my neck. I don't want or need a neck lift as its only loose skin nor do I need lipo as its not fat. As its minimal I would like a local anaesthetic, why do doctors not want to do these minimal corrections? when sometimes these small defects affect peoples self confidence like big problems? I am sick of wearing scarves because I hate my neck folds.

A: options for loose neck skin

The reason most doctors dont want to perform these interventions is that the results are very poor.  To retain a natural look the removal of skin and new support vectors have to be spread in a natural way.  there are many options that can be comppleted under local including a full neck lift in the right patient.  Stay away from the 'mini' interventions offered mostly by para-plastic practitioners.  Find a Plastic and reconstructive surgeon that you trust and  let them guide you.  usually short cuts like ultrasound and energy based interventions just take a lot of your money and leave patients undertreated or even worse unnatural looking.  If you do want to try a noninvasive, Infrared light such as Sciton SkinTyte if carefully temperature monitored and administered by a plastic and reconstructive surgeon can be safe with noticeable effects.  This however is not even close to a replacement for surgery.

Neck Lift Without Surgery - What Works?

I have developed a turkey neck look and can't stand how old it makes me look. Plenty of magazines suggest alternatives to getting neck lift surgery.  Do any of these seem worth trying instead of plastic surgery?

  1. tightening cream like L’Oreal’s Collagen Skin Re-Modeller
  2. accent laser
  3. restylane
A: Neck lift without surgery?

None of these interventions will work.  The only 'step-down' intervention short of a face or neck lift that would have some effect is an energy based intervention.  Either infrared energy ie SkinTyte by Sciton delivered externally or slightly more invasive a laser canula delivered energy from underneath the skin.  The improvements from these types of interventions are marginal and really help the patients most who need oit the least.  These interventions are expensive and usually patients are much better off having the gold-standard treatment, a well planned and executed facelift.  I hope this helps!
