Not Very Happy About my Mini Tummy Tuck 2 Weeks Post-Op, Is This My Final Result? (photo)

Hi! I had a mini tummy tuck and lipo in september. It's been 2 weeks today since the MTT. I'm just wondering if I could still be swollen in my upper abdomen? The tummy tuck flattened my lower abdomen quite nicely..but sitting down I still have a roll hanging over my jeans. While my stomach looks decent standing, when i bend over..there is skin hanging off of my stomach. Is it possible that this will go away and I'm not giving it enough time? Also..is it possible to have a full tuck after a mini?

A: It will get better.. Two weeks after surgery is way to early to determine the final result. You are most certainly swollen. The final result is apparent at 4-6 months after your surgery. I suspect you will improve quite a bit. Good luck!

Should I Get Full or Mini Tummy Tuck? (Photos)

I am 47 years old, I have had 4 children all natural childbirth. I have recently lost close to 30 lbs and now weigh 114 and I am 5'2" tall. I have this pooch just below my belly button. I also have stretch marks and my belly button kinda sinks in. My biggest objective with a tummy tuck is to have a flatter stomach. Do you think a full tummy tuck or mini would reach that goal?

A: Mini versus full tummy tuck

A mini tummy tuck can vary considerably from surgeon to surgeon so you need to discuss carefully with your surgeon what is involved. In general a mini tummy tuck removes skin and fullness below the belly button. It also tends to pull the belly button a little lower. If you are happy with your upper abdomen and don't mind your belly button being lower (and it does look like you belly button is relatively high), then you may be happy with a mini. If you want correction of your upper abdomen, then you will need a full tummy tuck. You should discuss your concerns and questions with a board certified plastic surgeon in your area who should be able to help you decide.

Mini Tummy Tuck Scar Vs. Full Tummy Tuck Scar?

Is it possible to avoid a scar with a mini tummy tuck? I've heard that it doesn't entirely go away. Is the scar from a full tummy tuck more noticeable than from a mini tummy tuck?

A: Mini vs full abdominoplasty

Both mini and full abdominoplasty leave scars and the full abdominoplsty scar is almost always longer than the one from a mini. All scars are permanent though they do fade with time. I have never been able to predict how noticeable a scar will be; some are barely visible, others will keloid--although that is unusual from an abdominoplasty.

It is more important that you choose the operation that will give you the best results given your anatomy and goals. You should seek a consultation with a  board certified plastic surgeon in your area to discuss this and be sure to mention your concern about scarring. It is a factor which should be considered though it should not be the only one. Good luck to you.
