I Am 30 and I Have Hyperpigmentation All over my Body Due to Psoriasis, What Can Be Done?

I have brown skin (South East Asian origin) and I was wondering which chemical peel would be best suited to treat the hyperpigmentation..

A: You best option is to work with your dermatologist to control your psoriasis.

Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune skin condition.  The associated inflammation can result in post inflammatory hyper pigmentation.  The best treatment is control of the psoriasis. This can be an imperfect process and the treatments do have side effects.  You best option here is to work with your dermatologist.  Not every dermatologist is created equal so might find an academic dermatologist who specializes in the treatment of psoriasis.

Should You Moisturize After a Chemical Peel or Not?

I heard that moisturizing may delay the peeling process Oh I have one more question too, how are chemical peels on the body different than they are on the face.

A: Moisturizing after chemical peels is very beneficial in most cases.

Moisturizing after peels is very helpful except if you are doing it as an acne treatment.  Acne skin is very oily and the excess moisturizer can worsen acne in many cases.  Sincerely,

Why Do You Have to Stop Using Retinoids Before a Chemical Peel?

Why are you required to stop using them days before a chemical peel is performed. I am going to perform a 15% TCA Peel on my face. I am indian and of light brown skin. I have already performed a TCA peel once. I have been using Tretinoin always before a peel to prep my skin for it. I just want to know why we are required to stop.

A: 15% TCA is so mild.

However, you did not tell us how often you are using Retin A.  Daily use is often so irritating that it is not recommended.

In my practice, patients are allowed to use their Retin A on their usual schedule up to the night before a peel.  Generally we ask that they do not resume treatment until about a week after such a peel.

You did not indicate if a physician was performing your peel.  This type of peel should not be performed without direct physician supervision.  Ideally the physician is performing this service.
