I would ask your plastic surgeon for a specific answer. I generally tell my patients that they should not expect to do any core or abdominal exercises for at least 6 weeks after a tummy tuck. Good luck!
Work with your plastic surgeon to determine the best time for you to resume abdominal exercises. Generally, you’ll be encouraged to start walking as soon as possible and from there, you can gradually work your way up to abdominal crunches and additional core work, usually after 6 to 8 weeks. Take it slow and don’t rush your recovery. There will be plenty of time to work out and maintain your results once you have fully healed.
Thank you for your question. After a tummy tuck, patients can return to light activities almost immediately after surgery, normal activities 2 weeks after surgery, and vigorous exercise 4 weeks after surgery. We usually experience a slow steady improvement for 3 months or so after surgery. I would recommend isolated exercises for your abdomen like sit ups and crunches after 6 to 8 weeks after surgery.
I would recommend you speak to your surgeon as each Doctor has slightly different post operative instructions, he knows you, your history and what exactly was done in surgery.
We recommend 6-12 weeks. Everybody heals differently. During abdominoplasty, the separation of the abs is stitched back together, and the excess skin is removed. Recovery is tough, but the results are outstanding. Best of luck!
Speak with your surgeon as he or she knows your case intimately, but typically, I tell my tummy tuck patients that they can return to stomach exercise 6 weeks post surgery.Kindly,Kouros Azar
Thank you for your question. Although each surgeon will have slightly different recommendations regarding postoperative activity and instructions, it is typically recommended that patients avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activity for at least 6 weeks following surgery. To be sure, speak with your surgeon or your surgeon's office for further instructions. Best wishes pectoralis major point
Thank you very much for your question.I typically advise patients to wait 6 weeks before doing abdominal strengthening maneuvers. However, every doctor has their own postoperative protocols with regard to activity restrictions. I recommend you discuss this with your doctor, as they know you and your surgery best.-Dr. Dan KrochmalMAE Plastic SurgeryNorthbrook, IL
Thank you for writing to RealSelf. After a 3 week period of strict restrictions on your physical activities you should be able to gradually increase your activity level so that at 6 to 8 weeks you can resume full activities without any restrictions.
Each surgeon will have his or her guidelines for postoperative care. The norm to return to strenuous exercise after tummy tuck is 6 to 8 weeks. However, consult your surgeon as he or she will know the scope of the surgery and the specifics about you.
Thank you very much for sharing your concerns with us.At this point (1 month post-po) the swelling is normal. To reduce it, I recommend you perform daily lymphatic drainage massage therapy over the abdomen and wear a postoperative girdle from thigh to the breasts.Kind regards,Dr. Emmanuel Mallol ...
