Suddenly swollen 4 weeks post tummy tuck.

Question

I had a full tummy tuck 4 weeks ago no muscle repair was needed. I've noticed that my hips which were lovely and flat are now big. They measure 6 inches bigger. They are not hard and I can actually grab and move handfuls of fat. My upper inner thighs are also very swollen and 4 inches bigger. I was told swelling can move down and my hip area will return to normal soon. My upper tummy is very flat but now I have these huge flanks is this normal My surgeon doesn't not use compression garments.

Thank you for your question and I am sorry to hear of your sudden swelling.  It is difficult without an in-person examination or full series of photographs to determine what is taking place, but based on your narrative it seems to be swelling.  This can develop weeks after a tummy tuck and is usually related to an increase in your physical activity.  With the fact that the increase in size is along your hips and thighs and not where your incision or surgery was performed, gravity is likely "pulling" the extra water weight down your legs.  I would discuss this with your surgeon and see if a compression garment would help to keep this swelling to a minimum.  Best wishes.
