Okay to Have Fillers to the Smile Lines 2 Days After a Cosmedix Jessner Peel?

I have emailed the doctor who will be performing the fillers and he said that it will be fine. But all the spas that I have contacted regarding peels have told me to wait 2weeks. Is it better to do the peel or fillers first?

A: It should be okay but to be safe I would wait at least 1-2 weeks to do fillers after Jessner peel

It should be okay but to be safe I would wait at least 1-2 weeks to do fillers after Jessner peel. I think it takes about 4-7 days for a Jessner's to fully heal.  Most of the time it takes only a couple of days.  So generally, I like to wait for the healing to take affect before I do fillers. I usually like to do fillers before peels.  The reason is that with fillers the wrinkles becomes better effaced and this can allow the peel to get into the crevices of the wrinkle better and have a better result.

Blisters, Swelling, and Redness After Jessner Peel

I am 39 years old, and 1 day post Jessner peel. My goals are to reduce brown spots and sun damage. I now have blisters and weeping, tight, red, very swollen skin. I also have a strong itching sensation. Is this normal and should I put something on my skin?

A: True blisters are unusual after Jessner's

Blisters are unusual after Jessner's Peel. Strong itching could be indication of infection. Jessners is a superficial peel and should really have just redness after the peel and peeling of skin 3-5 days later. The blistering that you see could be crusting and you may need to clean more aggressively at least every 2-3 hours and sometimes every hour to decrease the crusting by moisturizing it and allowing the crusting to naturally fall off with the rinsing. I would definitely have the physician see you and make sure that you are taking care of the peel after the procedure. Jessner's peels are difficult to take deeper beyond the floor of the skin (or basement membrane). Even 5 coats may not take the peel deeper than the basement membrane which leads to a superficial to medium depth peel.

What is a Jessner's Peel?

An aesthetician told me i needed a jessners peel for sun damage i have on my cheeks. From what research i've done, i can only gather that a jessner peel is a blend of chemical peel types. what is the jessner and when is it used on the face?

A: Jessner's peel is a combination peeling agent

Jessner's is made of the following:

14g resorcinal -- a chemical compound from the dihydroxy phenols. It is the 1.3 isomer of benzenediol with the formula C6H4(OH)2

14g lactic acid 85% -- also known as milk acid, is a chemical compound that plays a role in several biochemical processes

14g salicylic acid -- a beta hydroxy acid. This colorless crystalline organic acid is widely used in organic synthesis and functions as a plant hormone.

All of these are in ethanol to make 100cc is an alcohol that is a short chain molecule and allows the peel to penetrate

All ingredients above work by removing your skin cells. Essentially the peels work together to take away the more superficial layers to allow deeper cells to resurface the treated areas and hence replenish the skin. It allows each agent to be less concentrated to decrease complications but increase effectiveness.

Over single and multiple treatments, these peels are likely to induce collagen production under the skin stem cells to improve pore size, tighten the skin, remove unwanted pigmentation, and improve skin texture. It is a very superficial peel and is safe. You need to be cautious with darker skin types like Asians, Hispanics and African Americans as with other skin treatments.
