I am 20 yrs, 100 lbs, no pregnancies, and have 30DD breasts with aerolas of ~6.5 cm. I am often annoyed with my breast size b/c it seems disproportionate to my frame, but am particularly unhappy about the large, stretched out appearance of my areolas. I have been considering breast reduction, but have recently discovered that the possibility to just reduce areola size, which would be much less expensive and might help aesthetically. Am I a good candidate for such a procedure?
Areola that are disproportionately too large relative to the total breast size can benefit from areola reduction. Proportions and balance are very important to breast aesthetics. This includes the areola diameter but not at the expense of the rest of the breast, ie the volume, shape and position. An areola reduction alone can have the effect of flattening the breast and thereby reducing projection. Often, breast shape and position are improved if a vertical tightening is also performed at the same time to create a more conical shape to the breast. Discuss these points with your plastic surgeon so you have a good understanding of the results that can be achieved through different breast surgery techniques.

I am 24 years old and have always had slightly larger than normal areolas and tear drop shaped "slightly snoopy" breasts. I have looked into just an areola/nipple reduction, but the scars seem unsightly. Is that a risk I would have to live with, or are there more experienced surgeons to eliminate this problem, or even laser treatments? How long would it take for my breasts to look normal? I just want the same size breasts, but more round with a smaller less protruding areola. Also, my actual nipple only protrudes when stimulated, would that still happen after this procedure? Thanks!
Many women develop elongated and larger nipples after breast feeding. Most women don't realize that this appearance can easily be treated as an office procedure with little to no scarring.
This procedure is very different from a reduction of areola size. This procedure can also be performed as an office procedure, however, when the procedure is performed as part of a breast lift, this procedure should be performed as an operating room. A skilled plastic surgeon can usually perform this with minimal scarring if the tension is not excessive.
is it fairly quick and inexpensive to have an areola reduction? and is it ok to do before getting pregnant again? or should it be done after im all done with having kids?
Areola Reduction is often part of a breast lift (or Mastopexy) procedure. As a woman ages, and particularly after having children, the areola expands and stretches even as the breast begins to sag and droop. Most women with large areola also have sagging breasts which benefit from either a breast augmentation procedure or a breast lift procedure.
If a woman needs only a small lift, I can do this simply performing a small augmentation procedure. If this woman also needs a reduction in her areola size, I can do this at the same time using a special donut technique with minimal scarring.
If a woman, however, doesn't want or require an implant, this procedure, this same donut technique can be performed as an office procedure under local anesthesia with negligible down-time.
