3 Weeks Post-Op Explant Surgery, I Have Low Grade Fever and Still Hurt. Infection?

My implants were removed after having 15 infections and 2 "explore" surgeries over a 5 year period. My breasts are still tender and I am now running a low grade fever for 2 days. I had a drain for 3 days on the infected breast. Is it possible that I am infected again?

A: Fever after explantation

You may have an infection but it will likely clear up just fine since your implants have been removed.  It is difficult for your body to clear an infection while you have a foreign body in place but it is no problem for a healthy adult after the implants are removed.  Your low grade fever will likely dissapear in a couple of days.  Good luck!

Secretions After Silicone Removal, Is This Normal?

I had a breast Augmentation on 28 June 2011 for 350cc both sides. the stitches were opening and I was stitched by my surgeon 3 times, and Secretions started coming out. The surgeon said the body is rejecting this implant and causing infections. two weeks after removal Secretions still coming from the left side. My left nipple was fine before the first operation for the Implant, but I have noticed that my nipple went inside and it is not coming up the area below it is hard, surgeon say normal.

A: Breast Augmentation

You had an infection and your surgeon did the right thing by removing the implant.  If it is still draining, your body is still clearing the infection.  Once your infection is cleared and the tissue is healed (3-6 months) you can have your implant replaced.  Good luck!

Can Explantation and Lift at the Same Time Cut off Blood Supply to Nipples?

I had a breast augmentation back in June 2006. I have been unhappy ever since. Doctor placed my 360cc saline implants on top of my muscle when I had little breast tissue to cover them. I have had a baby since then (Nov. 2008) and now want them removed all together. I thought I would be most happy with a lift also, but I was told because of the placement and little breast tissue, doing it all at the same time could possibly cut off blood supply to my nipples. Any thoughts on this?

A: You can do them both together.

By doing both of those procedures at once, you do run a risk of your nipple not having enough blood supply to live.  This risk is fairly low but definitely there.  You can do the explantation and the lift at 2 separate operations to be safer.  If you have saline implants, you can have the surgeon deflate the implants in the office and later have them removed and a lift, which is considered safer also.  Good luck!
