Are Fillers an Option for Persistent Neck Bands That a Prior Neck Lift Did Not Fully Address?

And if so, what filler do you recommend for neck bands and what are the success rates when used in the neck area?

A: Treatment of Persistent Platysma Muscle Neck Bands

Fillers are not used to treat  platysma muscle neck bands.  The bands are the result of the contracting of the platysma muscle of your neck, a dynamic process, that cannot be improved with fillers.

You have already had a neck lift, and you may or may not have had treatment of the neck muscle bands as a part of the neck lift procedure.  So, it would be helpful to know what was done for the platysma muscle bands.

At this point the best option may be the use of Botox to weaken the platysma muscle contraction which is the cause of the bands.

It is important to keep in mind that there is no perfect surgical procedure for this problem,  and that even with initially good results, platysma neck muscle bands may form again.

You should discuss your concerns with your plastic surgeon who is already familiar with you.  You may also want to get a second opinion consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon  who can evaluated anew and provide a fresh prospective on your concerns.

Results of Face and Neck Lift

I am three weeks post SMAS face lift, submentoplasty and fat grafting. I have a nice new jaw line, scars under my chin(good) and inside, above and behind my ears( all good) but still have neck banding, in fact very obvious banding altogether spoiling my nice new face. What to do now? My swelling has completely gone - I am a quick healer and am happy with all the other aspects but as a professional keyboard player, when I lean over or look up, it is not a nice look in the neck.

A: Treatment of Persistent Neck Bands Following Facelift Surgery

At three week after surgery you describe having residual platysma muscle. bands of your neck.   The procedures that you listed seem appropriate but don't describe what treatment was done for the platysmal bands that you had preoperatively.

At this point, it is too early to perform another neck lift surgery,  It would be best to allow the neck tissues to heal further and  soften for a few months.

In the interim, treatment with Botox injection of the neck bands may help.

There are several operations for neck bands that have been used and abandoned over the years, and It is important for you to understand that there is no perfect solution to platysmal neck bands.

That being said, you should seek a second opinion consultation and have a thorough evaluation with a board certified plastic surgeon to get a fresh look at your concerns and perhaps a satisfactory treatment for your concerns.

Facelift, Necklift Options

I am 8 months postop and have No improvement, in fact I am worse then preop. I never had any neck bands and how have many. My jaw line in droopy and the fat pad I wanted remover is still there! My PS states I signed a Medical Release and it did no guarantee a good result. She reccomended a PS who does face/necks only and another PS who does eyes only. She stated it would be at my expense since she does not refund or contribute to a revision. Cost, $20,000 Please help!

A: Unsatisfactory Result From Facelift surgery.

Your post operative Facelift result is clearly unsatisfactory to you.  It seems that it would be best for you to seek some second opinion consultations with experienced plastic surgeons in your area.  They can do a thorough examination and let you know what, if any thing, should be done at this point.

This will give you a fresh and more objective prospective on your results.
