Why are there hard bone ridges on side of my nose ? I believe they should not be there, my doctor says it is normal (Photo)

Although it is difficult to tell by pictures alone but it is possible that you had intermediate level osteotomies as opposed to low-level osteotomies.  To improve the wide appearance you would need low lateral osteotomies with infracture of that area and possibly medial osteotomies to complete infracture and achieve the narrow appearance.RegardsDr. J

The bottom line is that there is normal remodeling of the bony tissue after a rhinoplasty and the results may be fine as the healing process takes place. It is too early to make any other type of assessment at this time and I would continue close follow-up with your surgeon.

It may sound common, but do not worry about this.  It is very common to have width to the nasal bones especially after the splints have been removed.  The swelling begins to move out towards the face and makes the once thin appearance look wider.Ask your surgeon for some recommendations as to how to alleviate the swelling.Hope this helps.

Thanks for sharing you question and photograph. The photo doesn't quite show enough detail to give a full assessment. Though, at nine days, you should still expect to see and feel quite a bit of swelling along the nasal dorsum, especially if there was a large hump removed, which almost always involves osteotomies (fracturing the nasal bones). Only a thorough nasal examination could allow an assessment of whether or not you are healing appropriately. Keep in mind that it may take up to a year and in some cases even longer for all of the swelling to resolve after rhinoplasty surgery. Early on after rhinoplasty the nose is difficult to judge, especially 9 days after rhinoplasty.  The early swelling after a rhinoplasty along the sides of your nasal bones can be representative of many things including:-excessively wide nasal bones-swelling along nasal bones-periosteal swelling after rhinoplasty (can feel like hard tissue)Early on patience is to be recommended as each patient will have different amounts of swelling.  Close contact with your surgeon to help guide you the postoperative period is helpful to get to your ideal result.

It is difficult to answer your question without knowing the exact details of the operation and examining you in person.  Typically after a hump removal, I perform osteotomies to narrow the nasal bones to close the open roof.  For now its very important for you to be patient and allow the healing process to occur.  Your nose is still swollen.  You should also communicate all your concerns to your surgeon.  Wish you the best!

Waaaay too early to judge results.  Wait a few months (at least three) and see how it all settles.  See your surgeon regularly and have serial photos taken at monthly intervals to see how things are evolving.  If the results do not match expectation you may need a revision.  Hopefully you are working with a surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery who has enough experience to be able to create a surgical reality that matches your expectations.
