(Photos in order: 1. End result, 2&3. Before Dr Ward, 4. Surgery, 5. Proof of Unexpected Miracle, 6&7. Second chance at life) Hang tight... this review is a bit long but well worth the read! My journey began 8 years ago with an accidental headbutt to my nose which broke the bridge into a few pieces. One of the pieces ended up almost blocking the opening to my sinus cavity which made it so I always had sinus infection because it wouldn't drain properly. When antibiotics wouldn't keep it at bay my only other option was sinus and reconstruction surgery. The ENT that I chose did well opening and clearing out my infected tissue, but he really messed up on the structure of my nose. After 2 surgeries with him, my nose collapsed from the inside. I was so discouraged and felt cheated. He was very uncaring and sent me on my way, even though he could clearly see how poorly my outcome was. After letting it heal for a year, I set up a consultation with Dr Ward where he told me that my nose would be a really difficult case for him to do. He was very reassuring and told me that if either he or I weren't happy with the result that he would stand behind his work as long as I did my part in the healing journey. This journey required a lot of patience, persistence, trust, optimism, and hope, but it also caused feelings of frustration that my body was not healing very well. My experience with Dr Ward has spanned 5 years consisting of: Four surgeries, one rib cartilage graft, one ear graft, many many many steroid injections to break down all the scar tissue that my body insisted on forming, medications, nightly compression taping, daily nose massages, and more. It has been a lot but Dr Ward has always been optimistic and persistent that we will get the outcome that we both love. BUT Here's where the story gets crazy! After my 6th and final surgery Dr Ward suggested that I try to take Accutane which helps calm the sebaceous glands, which reduces the inflammation, which in theory could hopefully help prevent my nose forming scar tissue that it desperately always wants to make lots of. During month 3 of Accutane I notice that my nose is bleeding more frequently and my hair is becoming really dry and I was shedding a lot and I thought 'that it ok because I would rather have to regrow hair than have another surgery'. Month 4 my nose bleeds get worse, and I start bleeding in another area after working out, but its not something that I am not already used to as a female, so now I am bleeding often from 2 areas from Accutane. Month 5, oh, month 5... I started bleeding profusely from a 3rd area, and I knew that something was really wrong. The tissue in my body was too thin and I immediately stopped taking the medication. My bloodwork looked awful which needed help, and a colonoscopy was also promptly ordered. I felt like I just could not catch a break and felt very angry that I have had so many setbacks all stemming from my stupid nose. I promise this is relevant and not a tangent... So, I go in for a colonoscopy and the GI physician found the source of the bleeding confirming what we thought it originally was... and he also found 3 larger colon polyps considering my age, the largest one being 9mm. After the tissues was tested, they were indeed precancerous and the dr thinks that they began growing 9-10 years ago. He said that I was most likely about 1-2 years away from colon cancer. This would have been 5 years before the age of regular screening at 45 years old!!! Here is my takeaway: Had I not broken my nose, had I not gone to the wrong Dr, had I not gone to Dr Ward, had he not said that he stands behind his work, had he not prescribed Accutane, had I not developed a weird reaction, had I not had a colonoscopy, I would have had colon cancer in my very near future. What I was calling 'unfortunate and discouraging trials' ended up being some of the biggest blessings of my life. Today, I now have a big smile behind the camera. Not only because I finally love my nose, but because I feel like I have more life to live. Thank you Dr Ward, not only did you help me breathe and increase my confidence, but you unknowingly very well could have saved my life.
TOP DOC! My rhinoplasty went amazing. It’s 5 years later and I’m still so in love with my results. So great full I did my research and that I managed to find Dr Ward. I am from the UK so I didn’t have much knowledge on surgeons in UT but after a lot of digging I managed to find Dr Ward. I was instantly impressed with his work. His results look so natural and that’s exactly what I was looking for.
If you want a fabulous nose I highly recommend Dr. Ward. All the wonderful bedside manner, compassion, and understanding Dr. Ward and his staff all excel at didn't mean anything to me. As this is my face! I wanted SKILLS and Dr. Ward delivered. Thank you!
I'm a trans woman who has been through the ringer. I was a model/actor prior to transitioning and upon coming out, I decided to start my journey with a rhinoplasty in Beverly Hills, CA by who I thought was a consummate professional. I was so wrong. I left that initial procedure with an inability to breathe and a mostly botched procedure. I discovered Dr Ward upon moving back to Utah, and after doing copious amounts of research; I entrusted him with the massive project of reconstructing my nose. Because of the condition my nose was in, it required multiple procedures to correct the issues of breathing and aesthetics. However, Dr Ward never once complained, denied care, became frustrated, etc. He became invested in me, my happiness and story. Never have I experienced such incredible bedside manner. Never have I felt so listened to and respected by a surgeon, and I have lots of surgery experiences. I cannot recommend Dr Ward enough. He's a surgeon yes, but he does not have a God complex and he doesn't make your surgery about ego. He's simply talented, ethical, honest and sincere. I'm thrilled with my nose and face after it all. I don't believe another surgeon could have delivered the way he did. I cannot speak highly enough about him. I'll always be grateful to and for Dr Ward for changing my life and helping to bring my vision of self to life.
I'm now in my fourth week of recovery for my rhinoplasty and septoplasty performed by Dr. Ward and I could not be happier with my experience. From the point of my initial consultation Dr. Ward and his team have been nothing short of exceptional in both their quality of service and professionalism. Their facility is clean/updated and from day one they made sure I felt comfortable and taken care of- which was extremely important to me. My consultation was very informative and gave me a full understanding of the surgery I was considering. I did my due diligence and had consultations with other surgeons, but very quickly I could tell Dr. Ward was going to be the surgeon for me. He didn't promise me a nose from some random celebrity's picture nor did he just flat out tell me what he wanted me to do. He listened to my initial concerns with my nose and from there built off of those concerns by working with the features of my own face in order to give me the most natural looking results. An in office photo morph was also performed during my consultation to give a visual of my possible results- which was perfect for me being the visual person that I am. After booking the surgery everything up to the point of the surgery went very smoothly, in addition to my pre-op appointment I scheduled another appointment with Dr. Ward to talk through some pre-surgery jitters I was having. He easily set my expectations and was able to put my mind at ease which just further proved to me that I had made the right choice in choosing him as my surgeon. Surgery went flawlessly and throughout the first four weeks of recovery I have had minimal swelling, zero bruising, and though I'm still very early in healing I can already feel a great difference in my breathing! I definitely recommend this amazing team if you are considering rhinoplasty- a procedure this important requires a significant amount of trust, and their team has truly earned mine.
Dr. Ward is exceptional. He was very interested in what I was concerned about and addressed each concern of mine. He took his time explaining everything. He is very knowledgeable. The result was perfect. Thank you Dr. Ward.
Dr. Ward is an exceptionally skilled doctor who had a compassionate attitude for my wellbeing throughout the process of before and after surgery care. I will forever be grateful for his dedication to excellence and will recommend him to everyone.
Dr Ward is the best. I have the best experience ever. He is the kind, the best ever. He is very gentle. The office is amazing, the staff is amazing. Everything is five stars and up. Thank you everyone.
Dr. Ward was awesome! He is super friendly, up front, and good at what he does. After researching so many doctors in the valley, he was the only one I felt good about. I don’t think I could’ve trusted anyone else! His office and staff is super nice and very welcoming. My procedure went well. It was in a surgical center right next to his office which was really nice. Recovery was about a week and a half for me. It only hurt for the first few days and when I’d wake up in the morning. I didn’t even get black eyes! Things are scheduled out really well and in advance. Things were explained beforehand, but I wish they would’ve gone a little more in depth. I got a mole removed and no one told me about after care for that. Also no one told me the ointment I was given basically breaks down skin so I kept using it and it could’ve possibly been part of the reason I had a reaction on one of my nostrils. Those were my only issues.
Dr Ward is the perfect combination of "professional" and "compassionate". I picked the very best surgeon for any-and-everything to do with my face. A fabulous overall experience. The Patient Care is also the finest I've ever experienced at any Medical Practice. My results far exceeded my expectations.
Hi there!Yes, the radix can be adjusted permanently without affecting the tip. A graft can be harvested from the nasal septum, the ear, or even the fascia overlying the temporalis muscle. This graft can then be inserted through a small incision made inside the nose.I hope this helps!P. Daniel Ward, MD
Thanks for your question. Based on the photo, I think that you have attractive facial features that could be enhanced with some procedures. Seeing other views of the face would be helpful to try and get a better idea of the 3D structure of the face. Having said that, I think that a rhinoplasty would help as would buccal fat removal. Good luck!
I have never heard of that particular regimen to prep the skin prior to surgery and I am not sure how it would improve your result. Having said that, I think that your question definitely highlights the issue of thick skin and how to deal with it prior to surgery. There are some facial plastic surgeons who will have their patients use accutane before and after rhinoplasty to help improve the skin. This can lead to improved results. I think that I would advise you to talk to your doctor about the reasons why those treatments were recommended prior to proceeding.
Thank you for your question. A rhinoplasty can be a life-changing procedure. Whether you want to proceed with an open or closed rhinoplasty should be considered after conversation with your surgeon about the pros and the cons of the procedure. In my opinion, the choice of approach to the nose is less important than the overall goal. There are multiple great surgeons in your area. I would look some up, go on some consults and see which surgeon is best suited to you and your goals. I wish you luck!
Thanks for your question. I would definitely recommend that you discuss with your surgeon. I suspect that your surgeon suggested that you press on the area to see if that resolved the issue. Swelling and scar tissue can be a big issue in rhinoplasty. If the issue did not resolve with massage of the area and with time, you may need to have another procedure and I am certain your surgeon would want to evaluate it. If you are interested in sending a photo of the area, we would be happy to take a look and make further recommendations. Good luck!
