I am planning on getting 550-600cc silicone implants under the muscle in a little over two weeks. Should I be stretching of working out my pectoral muscles? Eating lots of protein? Probiotics? Etc.? Just wondering if there's anything I can be doing to set my body be recovry up for success.
Answer: Anything I can be doing physically to prepare for breast augmentation? It’s great that you wish to be proactive in your care. I do not routinely make any special diet or exercise recommendations prior to breast augmentation surgery. Most surgeons have written general recommendations to follow prior to surgery. Ask your surgeon for his or her guidelines. Good luck to you.

Answer: Anything I can be doing physically to prepare for breast augmentation? Thank you for the question. Congratulations on your decision to proceed with a breast augmentation procedure. In general to prepare for the surgery it is best to avoid blood thinners prior to surgery and protein is always good for healing. However, it is best to discuss with your board certified plastic surgeon what you should do to prepare. Good luck.

Answer: How to prepare for upcoming Breast Augmentation Surgery Congratulations on your Breast Augmentation surgery. Going into surgery as healthy as possible is the best thing you can do now. I tell my patients that they can work out until the day of surgery then no exercise for 4 weeks after surgery. Also, discuss with your board certified plastic surgeon which prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, vitamins and supplements you need to avoid prior to and immediately after surgery. I also recommend that my patients stop smoking, avoid second hand smoke and maintain a healthy diet prior to surgery. Following your surgeon’s specific recommendations before surgery and throughout your recovery is the best advice.

Answer: Is there anything I can do physically to prepare for breast augmentation? As long as you are in good health, I rarely give my patients any specific instructions on physical activity PRIOR to breast augmentation. There is no need to stretch or work out your pectoral muscles. My biggest advice is to make sure you are well rested and that you have made appropriate arrangements to deal with your postoperative recovery. Be sure that you have family or friends available that can give you a hand for a few days after your surgery. In terms of diet, make sure you are eating normal amounts of food and be sure to include protein. It is never a good idea to go into surgery "on a diet" or trying to lose weight -- this can result in poor wound healing. Taking a daily multivitamin is a great idea.It is also very important to stop any herbal medications you may be taking because some may increase your risk of postoperative bleeding, among other things. Do not take any aspirin or pain medications containing ibuprofen as they can/will cause bleeding as well. Be sure to follow the postoperative instructions your Plastic Surgeon gives you. It is during the postoperative period when you will definitely have some activity restrictions for your upper body. Congratulations on your breast augmentation!
