what is the difference between lower blepharoplasty and fat removal in the lower eyelid? any extra procedure? thanks in advance.
A lower blepharoplasty can also be term a lower eyelid lift. There are many components to the procedure which are customized for each patient. During a lower blepharoplasty, we often remove excess skin, suspend the muscles and eyelid, and reposition the fat to correct the tear trough deformity. It is rare to have to remove fat, but at times it may be necessary. We often perform fat injections or a midface lift to improve the final outcome. Hope this helps, Frank Agullo, El Paso, Texas.
is it true your eyelids continue to grow as you age
The result of a blepharoplasty will last approximately 10 years or more. It is possible that in time the skin will lose its elasticity and the patient could develop some excess skin in the area and may require a second blepharoplasty. The excess skin could also be a sign of droopiness of the brow; in this case, perhaps a brow lift would be a better alternative than a second blepharoplasty. These issues should be discussed with the plastic surgeon before attempting a second blepharoplasty.
I hear that blepharoplasty is done with local anesthesia does this mean you are awake?
Blepharoplasty surgery can either be done under local, IV conscious sedation, or with general anesthesia; but local anesthesia is a very common way of doing it. This means that the patient will be awake throughout the procedure.
