I had a punch biopsy done for a mole and the result came back as displastic nervous with moderate atypia extending to the peripheral margin. The doctor said I should have more removed ( re-excised) but he wouldn't do it now, since I am 5 months pregnant and I just have the sutures removed ( from the punch biopsy). He said that it is not urgent and I should have it done after delivery. Is it true that I can postpone it a few months ( without anything bad to happen ). Thank you very much.
You are safe to wait until after delivery for excision of a dysplastic nevus. We do not think these "funny moles" change rapidly and they don't all get worse. Removal within a month or two of delivery should be fine
In our office we get to see lots of newborns as their mothers bring them in where they sleep or just sit there watching while we work on mother. Take care!
I had a mole removed 3 days ago and because it was a raised mole, it had to be removed by stitches. A day after i got the stitches out, i noticed a black spot on the scar but it's no longer raised. The surgeon has called me back after 6 weeks for biopsy results. Is there a possibility that this black spot is another mole or is it just some temporary thing?
Since the black spot was noticed the day after suture removal, I suspect it is due to a bit of "dried blood" along the incision line.
That is nothing to be concerned about as the body will naturally dissolve it in a couple of weeks. The most important thing would be the pathology report. As long as the "mole" that was removed did not turn out to be malignant, i.e. a skin cancer or melanoma, you should be okay.
I got IPL done on some sun spots/moles and I was told to put Mederma on the places where the scab falls off and the skin underneath is pink. After some scabs fell off, there is still some brown pigment left and I wasn't sure if I should be putting Mederma on those too and if that will help fade the leftover marks because are those spots/marks considered scars? I looked up scars and it's defined as any injury to the skin? Are those marks considered scars then and will Mederma help fade them?
IPL (intense pulsed light) is often used to remove brown pigmented spots on the skin. Several treatments may be necessary.
This is the best time of the year to remove brown spots, age spots and mottled pigmentation caused by sun damage. Repair now, and then next spring and summer you can move on to protect and prevent more from coming back.
We often combine IPL treatments with creams applied at home like Retin-A, Obagi, and hydroquinone. Also, make sure and use a UVA blocking moisturizing sunscreen like Anthelios for the perfect "recipe."
As to what to put on right after an IPL treatment, a bland soothing ointment like Vaseline and Aquaphor are among the best and just so happen to cost the least.
