What is a Mini Tummy Tuck?

How is it different than a regular tummy tuck?

A: Mini Tuck - combine with Smartlipo, a better approach.

A "mini-tuck" is a less-invasive form of a tummy-tuck. It is removal of skin and fat below the umbilicus (belly button), and tightening of the muscles-fascia in that area. An improved approach is to treat the remaining area in the abdomen with Smartlipo (or liposuction) if there are fat deposits in the upper abdomen and hip area. this gives a much improved contour and definition to the waist area.

Bruises and Swelling After Mini Tummy Tuck and Liposuction

I had a minitummy tuck and liposuction 7 days ago.The scar was positioned very low where my C scar was before and 4 cm longer. I didn't have much fat but my skin was loose after my second child.I also had liposuction on my flanks and my bra area.I'm feeling good, but I am concerned about my belly button, the Dr. didn't touch it, he only stitched my muscles, but my belly button looks twice as big,is it normal? Also I have huge bruises in my inner thighs and they look full of liquid, normal?

A: Post op liposuction and mini-tuck

At 7 days out, it is best to address these concerns with your PS. Bruising happens to varying degrees, same with swelling. However, if there are fluid collections, this may need to be addressed. Good luck with your recovery. J. Vicente Poblete,MD, FACS, Avon Lake, OH

Can Vomiting Tear Abdominal Muscle Sutures?

I had a mini tummy tuck and liposuction, and 2-3 wks post-op, I became ill, where I was vomiting for a few days. I am 4 weeks post-op, and I remain swollen and tender in the abdominal area. Is it possible that I tore a stitch? How can I tell if I did and how would the doctor be able to see?

A: Post liposuction and mini tummy tuck

Vomiting after those procedures can affect the repair. Usually, in a mini-tuck, I would tighten the muscles in the middle to achieve better contouring. Depending on how the tightening is done, prolonged or severe vomitting could affect the sutures. This is best addressed with the plastic surgeon who did your procedure.
