I am wondering if Laser Genesis is the same type of procedure as IPL or Photofacial. Thanks!
Laser Genesis is a 1064 Nd:YAG laser that is used to stimulate the production of collagen from the deeper layers of the skin to help reduce the size of pores and reduce redness due to Rosacea and dilated blood vessels. Because it is a long-wavelength laser, it can safely treat all skin types. IPL/Photofacial is Iight-based, not laser-based and targets the epidermis, or topmost layer of the skin to reduce dilated blood vessels, redness, and discoloration that may occur from sun spots, etc. It can also be used in conjuction with stimulatory chemicals such Levulan for enhanced effect in photodynamic therapy. Because this treatment targets the most superficial layer of the skin, it can not be used to safely treat some of the darker skin types. Both Laser Genesis and IPL/Photofacial require several treatments to see maximal improvment.
Can Laser Genesis cause any bumps (like pimple) under the surface of skin? If yes, how can we avoid it?
It is unlikely that laser genesis would cause bumps under the skin. If anything, it should actually improve pores, thus reducing breakouts. Laser genesis works by stimulating collagen and inducing surface changes like decreasing redness and pore size by heat. While results aren't typically long lasting, it really should not have the opposite effect of increasing acne.
Does Laser Genesis work to get rid of acne? Are there other laser acne treatments that would work better?
Laser Genesis does decrease the size of pores, so it can certainly improve acne. It is also useful for acne scarring, however, for each of these treatments, generally over 6 treatments are required to really see results. Other laser or light based treatment that can be used for acne are photodynamic therapy, which is the use of a photosensitizer such as levulan, which is then activated by a light or laser source such as the blue light or IPL. 1450 nm diode lasers are probably more useful in treating acne. Acne scarring can also be addressed with CO2 and fractional resurfacing lasers.
