I did otoplasty 1.5yrs ago.My doctor did what I asked him to: pinned the ears back but I wanted them to show a little bit,I didn't want people to notice the otoplasty. Strangely,I look in some mirrors and I like how my ears look and in others I don't like them.I don't know why I still have this issue with my ears. Is it worth it to do a revision otoplasty? Will this 'weaken' my ears long term?I do Jujitsu and don't want this to be comprmise training. I attach photos. Please give me your opinion
I think the pictures show a very good result and I would strongly recommend that you avoid further surgery. This result may not be perfect in your eyes, but please remember that the enemy of good is perfect.
I've had these for over ten years, a doctor already worked on the left one (which got worse after the surgery than pre-op!) I would really like to get this fixed if possible. A plastic surgeon or an Ear Nose Throat specialist? Also, how can I find a reputable plastic surgeon? It is quite daunting looking for one, there are so many and I am not sure who I can trust with this procedure! Please assist, thank you very much.
Cauliflower ears form due to hematoma formation after trauma. If the hematoma is not drained and/or if pressure is not applied, the cartilage in the ear is stimulated to produce scar tissue and cartilage. The treatment for this problem is surgical, with elevation of a skin flap and shaving down of the cartilage. Pressure must then be applied in the form of a splint or bolster to prevent reformation of the deformity. Refraining from contact sports for 4-6 weeks is recommended after the surgery.
Looking straight on, the tops of my ears end below my eyes & the lobes end at about where the creases of my mouth are. I know there are corrective surgeries for low set ears, but after researching, i don't think i have that. Also my ears have pretty normal folds and are actually about average size so I don't think it is a problem with them being too small. This is a problem for me because the distance from the top of my ears to my forehead line is great so it looks like I have a big forehead.
A procedure known as Otoplasty can be performed to make the ears less prominent in their relationship to the skull. However, there is no procedure which can reliably elevate the ears. As others have mentioned, the rate limiting step is the positioning of the external auditory canal, which has a cartilaginous and a bone component.
