Concerned about side effects from LHR. Can I get permanent damage from the laser? what about hyperpigmentation or scars?
In the hands of the right physician using the appropriate device set at the correct settings, side effects from laser hair removal present a very minimal risk. However, if the settings are incorrect any of the following may occur: blistering, darkening of the skin, erosions on the lip, development of cold sores, redness and persistent pain. Most of these are temporary and can be avoided by proper preparation of the treated area prior to the procedure being performed.
A few laser practioners I have been to have given me conflicting advice about the length of time I should wait between treatments. Some say 4-5 weeks is the ideal period while others have indicated 7-8 weeks is much better if one is to target a greater proportion of hair in the right growth phase. What is your view on the ideal length of time that one should wait between treatments?
Spacing laser hair removal treatments is dependent upon the area of the body that is being treated. Hair in different areas has different growth rates. Since laser treatments are effective on hair in the growth phase, it is necessary to space the treatments accordingly to maximize the effectiveness of the treatments. Generally speaking, there is no disadvantage to waiting a longer period of time than recommended between treatments. It will only prolong the end result.
I had my first treatment with Cutera laser and haven't feel any sensation or pain at all. I've heard I need to feel something so wondering is this normal or I am wasting my money. And how to tell practitioner that I am suppose to feel something and not to make awkward and unpleasant environment for us since this is first session and I have 6 to go. My skin type is II. What you would suggest ? Thanks
It would be highly unusual to experience no discomfort during laser hair removal treatment. Are you sure that the laser is appropriate to treat your particular skin type? Are the settings correct? Was numbing cream administered prior to the procedure? Did you smell the pungent odor of hair being charred? If not, you may consider seeking a different physician/facility.
