Would it be appropriate to request pain med refill?

Its ok to discuss how you are feeling even after 3 weeks. It is not infrequent that I am refilling a pain medicine  script even 3-4 weeks out. It's never wrong to be honest with your doc about how you are feeling. let me knowJohn S Mancoll,MD 

Patients handle pain very differently in the postoperative period.  There is no shame in discussing the pain that you're having with your surgeon, especially if you have had a recent fall.  I'm sure that he or she would want to know about this.  While it is not the norm, it is certainly not unheard of for patients to still be using prescription pain medication three weeks after their procedure. I recommend that you schedule an appointment with your surgeon to be evaluated and possibly get a refill on your pain medication.

Hello, and thank you for this question. Yes it is fine and can ask for a pain refill from your treating surgeon. As one of the other surgeons had recommended get a followup visit to make sure you are healing uneventfully. Best of luck.

Thank you for your question.  I can understand your apprehension about asking for additional pain medication, but it sounds as if you have a very reasonable cause of your pain after this fall.  Make an appointment to see your physician, they will be able to examine you in-person and if it appears warranted can write you another prescription. It is important to always feel comfortable communicating with your physician. 

I think it is still very appropriate at 3 weeks from surgery to request more pain meds.   While you should be requiring less pain medication 3 weeks from surgery than right after, it is not uncommon to still have some discomfort that is improved with pain medication, particularly at the end of the day.

Hi. It's perfectly fine to request more pain meds but you need to be evaluated by your surgeon. Three weeks out you should be feeling discomfort and tightness not pain. You need to make sure your progress is coming along just fine. Good luck, Dr PG

your surgeon may want to follow up with an office visit to ensure that you are
healing properly and didn’t injure yourself. Make sure to mention this incident
when you call to ask for a refill of your pain medication. There is no reason
why you shouldn’t get the pain relief you need, whether through prescription
medication or NSAIDs. Call your surgeon to discuss your options to ensure your

I think it's completely fine for you to ask your plastic surgeon about pain medication. You should also communicate the fact that you may have hurt yourself more seriously since being fresh from surgery. Thank you for your question!Melinda Lacerna, MD FACS

I would not hesitate talking to your plastic surgeon about your pain. He or she will be able to guide you on your pain management regiment Everyone's pain threshold is different and can vary with their resuming certain activities . Don't be hard on yourself and talk to,your Doctor.

If you are still experiencing pain then you should ask for relief. Don't worry what your surgeon "thinks" about you.  The important thing is that you are as comfortable as possible during the healing process. Your surgeon will want this for you as well.
